This is an inside joke made by the former director of the Ministry of Technology which stems from a speech he made when unveiling a series of joint projects with the Ministry of Agriculture. Known for his many contributions to the state and his sense of humor. Elliott Harvey has brought many new ideas, programs, and smiles to the workplace.

Potatoes and Diplomacy: A Foreign Affairs Custom
Ever since Elliot Harvey's passing, the Ministry of Technology installed a small podium within its headquarters, which displayed a well-preserved potato dressed in formal wear to honor their former director. Overtime, the making of these podiums spread to the other Ministries, and thus the tradition of Gridato was born. Also known as a Peace Potato, these humble spuds grew to be a symbol of the common man, and democracy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was no stranger to the Gridato, the Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Lucerna bore one beside the reception desk. Although its use would also spread beyond Luminerra to other countries in the form of embassies. The Luminerran Embassy in the Kingdom of Valktonia became the first to house a peace potato, and it soon became tradition for every Luminerran embassy opened in foreign countries to have a Gridato. The Veldantan Chronicle commented on the tradition, calling it "a symbol of peace as popular as the Galde and Malde" and the "unofficial mascot of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs".
