Luminerran Culture (UNDER RENOVATION)

Luminerran Culture

Luminerran Culture is heavily influenced by factors such as religion and other foreign cultures. Ladennism is of great importance in the northern regions of Luminerra, as many folktales, festivals, and customs originate from the old Luminerran Ladennist Church. While in the southern regions and the Luprese Islands, Vaenism is more of an influence.

Major Luminerran Holidays:

The Blestraum Festival:
Blestraum is one of the most important celebrations in Luminerra. It is celebrated throughout the last 15 days of November, which used to be the final month of the Reonar Calendar in Lucerna. In some states celebrations can even last until the end of December.
The first day of the festival starts with the traditional Duun-kirun or First Peace, which highlights the beginning of the end for the current year. Here people would hang up pieces of paper known as Ricus on one wall of the house. These papers have tally marks written on one side to represent the hopes and desires for the new year while the side that isn't shown details the changes a person wants to make in said year, similar to the tradition of a New Year's resolution. After the festival, the Ricus would be kept in a safe place until the end of next year, where it is burned to make way for a new Ricus.
The next days of the festival would be marked with performances of traditional dance and music, and parades. In particular, the famous Ergif Parade in the Zevidonian city of Labedo, which features people wearing modified imperial guard costumes all with varying colors and designs.
During the festival, Shelves would be decorated with little wooden figurines known as Yisgli which represent the members of a household. It is considered bad luck to have a Yisgli knocked down while the celebration lasts. In Ladennist households, the Srinheld is read before the Blestraum Feast, which marks the end of the festival

Flower Festival
Celebrated on the third week of May across the southern states of Luminerra and the Luprese Islands. This festival commemorates the reappearance of the Flower of Balance and the defeat of the Grympid King. This festival also marks the beginning of the Volur Berry harvest season in some towns, since the southern regions are a major producer of said berry. Reenactments of The Misfredant are held in major cities. At the end of the week, the Favalon Balloon Festival takes place.

National Day
National Day is celebrated in April 27 to celebrate the formation of the Luminerran Republic. The "Lux Unitates" is raised alongside the old flag of the Republic in Mayre's Gate, and the Mulixa Veldanta is hung on the streets. Fireworks are launched throughout the country, The state police and military hold parades in major cities, and the famous Guns of the Federation event is held by the Navy.

Feria Teliria
This festival is officially celebrated in the first week of March and is celebrated across nations in and around the Telirian Peninsula as a celebration of their unity. One highlight of the festivall is the annual Mulixa Art Competition, in which people make traditional Telirian banner art, with the best work hung in the Banner Hall building of Valktonia.

Luminerran Mythology

Luminerran Mythology is a collection of many different stories and beliefs passed from generation to generation, usually by word of mouth. The cultures of the ethnic groups that make up Luminerra have been heavily influenced by Kyonia, owing to centuries of Kyonian rule.

Folk Tales, Legends, and Other Writings:

(Note: These are short summaries of Luminerran Folk Tales. The original works had an average of 500+ pages!)

The Misfredant:
Long ago, in Old Lucerna. A young boy angered the great Earthqueen Laestram by destroying a sacred flower responsible for keeping the balance between land and water. This caused unparalleled destruction throughout the land, as the oceans were now free to ravage the coasts. Once balance was restored, Laestram cursed the troublemaker, he became the first Grympid and was forced to wander the land. Taking the name 'Grisam', he would raise an army of Grympids and challenge the Enkal.[1]
His great Faceless Legion would terrorize Teliria, slaying 4 out of the 15 Enkal, and laying siege to Lucerna.
In response to Grisam's defiance. Laestram forged a holy blade out of the remains of the dead Enkal, and sent it to find a worthy master. Falling from the sky, the sword would make it's place atop a great mountain. The people of Teliria tried to retrieve it, but nobody was able to overcome the freezing cold, climb the treacherous peak, and slaughter the beast guarding the sword.
The king of the ancient Moveltani Empire sent his strongest warrior to take the sword and slay Grisam once and for all. This man was named Orholoe.

The Pyurifidos:
This is a myth from the Limevi tribes that is linked extensively to Ladennism, the nations biggest religion. The Pyurifidos (The Purification) is an old Moveltani epic detailing the story of the Lrividen of Combat, named Icilor (Lrividen are angel-like beings). He began as a general of the Fallen One (A fallen Lrividen) during the Great Celestial Revolt against Bleiran (The creator). During an attack on Quelvix, he meets and falls in love with its Iquila, Reiador (Iquilans were one of the first beings to inhabit the universe, their true forms are linked within the planets they inhabit. They are less powerful than the Lrividen.). This leads to him switching to the side of good, battling the forces of the Fallen One. Eventually, in the biggest battle of the war, he and Reiador were overwhelmed and gravely wounded by the Lrividen of Chaos Dyloran, which eventually leads to him entering a millennium-long slumber with Reiador in the legendary underground City of Elevria to heal. Bleiran ends up intervening at the last minute, obliterating the forces of the Fallen One and sealing the traitor within the Void.

National Anthem of Luminerra:
Nam Illustrius Caelum was composed during the Luminerran Revolution, and was adopted as the official anthem. Translated to Anglis, it means For a Brighter Sky.

O' great northern union,
May thy light shine eternal,
From the mountain peaks,
To the sun-drenched shores,

May our people always rise
to the bright rays of liberty,
May we never fail to fight,
For a brighter sky,

Glorious Fatherland,
Keeper of the gate,
Precious Homeland,
For whom we stand guard,
Thy banner shall wave,
Until the end of days,

The stars of your sky,
May their lights shine eternal,
For the silver bear,
For the golden lion,

Creatures of Myth: Luminerran Edition

Grympids:

Grympids are humanoid beings found in Luprese Mythology that are found underground. They are described as tall, grey-skinned creatures with a single large eye on their face. They have a flower on the top of their heads that contains their life force, if the flower is plucked, the Grympid will do all it can to get its flower back, tracking and killing the person responsible for taking it. The only way to defeat a Grympid is to make a circle of salt surrounded by four candles, then burn the Grympid's flower in the middle.

Ligirn:

Ligirn are creatures found in Limevi Mythology. Ligirn are large muscular beings with twelve rat heads and a large tail. They often roam around forests at night, looking for lost travelers to eat. They have an excellent sense of hearing and smell but move very slowly and have terrible vision during daytime. A similar creature in Zevi Mythology known as Polkop possesses three lizard heads.

Trossles:

A Trossle is an aquatic being found in Kaegoni Mythology with a spider-like appearance and a large bulb on its head that can emit sound and light. They live in the deepest depths of Lake Milivor and surface once a year to guide sailors to their destination through song. If the light on it's head flickers, it means a terrible storm is coming.

Figures of Myth

Ivan Gavel

The legendary first king of the Lucernae Empire, he is featured in many fictional works, folk-tales, and legends. Most describe him as a wise, noble, kind, and fearless leader who launched the Telirian Crusade and built an empire. However it is more likely that the Telirian Crusade lasted for a century and was campaigned by several kings of Lucerna, Ivan being one of them. The Gavel Dynasty is also traced back to a Velvashian noble house, not native Luminerran. Future archaeological discoveries may change this though.

Reiador

The ruler of Elevria, a legendary lost city from the Pyurifidos. In the poem, the unnamed son of the destroyer falls in love with her and switches his allegiance. When The Pyurifidos ends she and the hero retreat to Elevria and enter a long sleep. Interestingly, in Vaenism she is said to be the personification of Quelvix itself.

Grisam

The king of the Grympids. Once a normal boy, he was punished by Laestram (the primary deity of Vaenism) for destroying a sacred flower and was turned into the first Grympid. He commanded the armies of Grympids that attacked Lucerna in The Misfredant. He was defeated by the hero Orholoe who wielded the legendary sword, Elgade.
