Constitution of Kaleidos




The 1994 Constitution of Kaleidos


Adopted April 26, 1994.

The National Archives are proud to present the thirtieth-anniversary edition of our Constitution.



Preamble

So that the forces of evil shall never again hold dominion over Kaleidian soil, let the following be known and enacted:

  1. That the evil force of communism once ensnared the Kaleidian people;

  2. That the Kaleidian people were once subjugated under the tyrannical rule of the Communist Party of Greater Michigan;

  3. That ten thousand Kaleidians valiantly sacrificed their lives to liberate our soil from the iron grip of the Communist Party;

  4. That we, the Kaleidian people, pledge to our descendants forever, the blessings of economic liberty;

  5. That we, the Kaleidian people, pledge to our descendants forever, the right to religious freedom;

  6. That we, the Kaleidian people, pledge to our descendants forever, the right to defend their homes and homeland!



Article I

  1. The name of our state shall be, the Independent State of Kaleidos;

  2. The official languages shall be Greek and English, but Greek shall be the national language, and in case of any discrepancy in law, the Greek text shall take precedence;

  3. The state shall be governed by a National Commission, which shall consist of three Commissioners;

  4. These Commissioners shall hold absolute power within the framework of this Constitution, but two Commissioners must be in agreement to pass any law;

  5. These Commissioners shall be elected on the fifteenth day of March of every fourth year, and they shall serve their term of four years, beginning sixty days from the date on which they were elected.



Article II

  1. The elections shall be conducted as follows;

  2. The six largest political parties shall be listed on each ballot, along with four open slots for other parties, and the voter shall rank the parties according to his preference;

  3. When the votes are counted, one-third of first-choice votes shall be necessary to select a party, but should no party meet this threshold, the party with the least votes shall be disqualified and their votes transferred to each voter’s second choice;

  4. And this process shall repeat until all three slots have been filled, and each victorious party shall choose its Commissioner from amongst itself;

  5. And each party shall have the option of replacing their chosen Commissioner upon his death or resignation, and his replacement shall serve the rest of his term;

  6. But no Communist party shall exist, and no Communist shall serve as Commissioner.



Article III

  1. The judiciary shall be run at the discretion of the National Commission, but the following guarantees shall be made to each defendant;

  2. The right to an attorney;

  3. The right to a trial by jury;

  4. The writ of habeas corpus;

  5. The protection against double jeopardy;

  6. The right to confront the accusers against him;

  7. And the right to a speedy and public trial.



Article IV

  1. Should the Kaleidian people find it necessary, this Constitution may be amended, by consent of all three Commissioners and three-quarters of the Kaleidian people. But the sixth clause of article two and the first clause of article four shall be immune from the amendment process.

  2. No amendment nor any other law may be passed ex post facto.
