Brotherhood Bulletin Supplementary: DZE Survey 2

Brotherhood Bulletin, April 2024

Hello and welcome to the Bulletin's Supplementary dispatch!
Below are the reviews of the Overseer's eye from the assassins who answered our survey - anonymized, of course.
Review by Anonymous Outside World Master
I stood atop the waters of the ocean, towering above the continents and mountains, upon which flames stretched from coast to coast, and scraped the skies.
Review by Anonymous Veteran Assassin
I ascended to the highest roofs of the house of learning and saw a ring of fire engulf the sky. Villagers stopped in their tracks in awe and wonderment.

I only had a small moment to look into the Overseer's Eye, as falling Fenda jets struck by the Brimstone™ AA system were unfortunately obstructing the view. However, for what little I saw, it was a truly mesmerizing moment.

I journeyed long in walking, far beyond the place of stopping, where there was no returning to the people I had known. I saw the world forgotten, where the grass gave up on growing, and I knew I would never make another journey home. On that fleshy outcrop, I looked up at the dark sky, and my eyes beheld a glorious sight: like a god's eye looking back down on me, a disk of pure darkness crowned by a ring of fire and magma. It looked down upon the world and its subjects, onto every single molecule, every single atom, and its gaze was so pure that even if you ground the universe into the finest powder and sieved it through the finest sieve, you could still feel its gaze upon your soul. As I stared up at that eye, I had one purpose in mind: to serve. If the Overseer wants blood, I will give it freely, and with such fury that even the earth shall bleed. Had I walked billions of trillions more miles, treading across millions more deserts and fields of ash and rock, I would still levy judgment upon those I call enemies, staining my blade with their lifeblood, letting it drip into the soil below. And at the end of all my slaughter, I would raise the bloodied blade to the sky, and the Overseer would smile back at me, I as his loyal lawbringer.

I got a good look at the Overseer's eye for a second before being transported into a mysterious world with a set of daggers and a cloak before a booming voice from the sky told me to find a way out of this mysterious world. I ended up escaping by going through a spiritual journey to find the Overseer and discover the true power that the Overseer has over everything that has ever existed. By the time I had found the Overseer's eye again at the end of my journey, I only saw it for a second before I ended up here

It was dark. Impossibly, unfathomably dark. The impenetrable darkness of the void which awaits all regions. I stared into it, waiting for a sign, some shining halo in the darkness, or at least a spark. Come to think of it, I think my sunglasses were defective. I should sue.

It burned. My eyes. Ouch.

The Overseer's eye is dark, surrounded by fiery fire, and blinding to the naked eye. I now am of the knowledge that the Overseer's eyeballs have such power, similar to or greater than the Sun's, and am not sure whether the Sun itself isn't an artifact of the Overseer too.

As my eye met the ring of gold that lit the otherwise dark sky, I felt immediately as though I had glimpsed something not meant for me to see. The earth became sky, and the sky earth, and I fell through that gaping portal into an ocean of inky black. There I swam, or walked, or drifted, or maybe all three at once, for a thousand lifetimes. So pure was the darkness, I could not see my hands - so still was the air, I could not hear my surroundings. I believe this was my penance for my hubris and pride in meeting the Overseer's gaze. On the final day of the final year, after I had forgotten a life beyond the ones I'd spent in the deep, I saw once more - a gleaming dagger, suspended in the dark, pointing skyward. As I reached to grasp it, I awoke, lying on the sands I had been standing on when I glimpsed the eclipse. The sky was still dark - I had, in truth, spent all those lifetimes in under a second. In my hand, I clutched the dagger I had fetched from the deep. I believe this was my gift for my bravery and service. I have that dagger even now. Besides being a boon from the Overseer, I can sense something special, something off about it. Something tells me it's good for only one use, and I ought to make it worthwhile.

The light around me dimmed and the color drained from the world, leaving me enveloped in a monochrome darkness. Before me, shades of people clashed in battle over and over, but one side slowly had less and less shades. Eventually, one side of the shade battle was the only one standing, and they milled about aimlessly. I finally dared to breathe, and their heads all snapped in my direction. They raised their daggers and charged at me, reaching me just as color and light flooded back into the world around me, and the shades vanished with them.
