The Kingdom of Markre is a huge, cultured nation, notable for its museums and concert halls, smutty television, and keen interest in outer space. The hard-working, democratic population of 357 million Markreans are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Freedom. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 13.1%.

The all-consuming Markrean economy, worth 27.0 trillion Pounds a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Pizza Delivery, Uranium Mining, and Book Publishing. Average income is 75,535 Pounds, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 257,824 per year while the poor average 16,284, a ratio of 15.8 to 1.

The government has cut its subsidies for all special interest groups, group hugs break out during floor votes, police officers often head to work wearing onesies and fluffy pink bunny-slippers, and stranded mountaineers can watch livestreamed footage of their rescues. Crime is relatively low, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Markre's national animal is the Salmon, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Markre is ranked 207,226th in the world and 253rd in Commonwealth of Liberty for Largest Gambling Industry, scoring -2.7 on the Kelly Criterion Productivity Index.
