The Borderlands of Neurania is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its irreverence towards religion and stringent health and safety legislation. The cynical population of 242 million Neuranians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The medium-sized, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 30.4%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Neuranian economy, worth 8.44 trillion Jems a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Book Publishing industry, with significant contributions from Beef-Based Agriculture, Furniture Restoration, and Basket Weaving. Black market activity is notable. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 34,887 Jems, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Criminals rejoice in the streets as the entire police force is sent away on a training retreat, bike rage is all the rage, prematurely retired barristers twitch in anxiety when they talk about their courtroom experiences, and college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Neurania's national animal is the Dragons, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Neurania is ranked 121,151st in the world and 151st in The Order of the Grey Wardens for Highest Foreign Aid Spending, scoring 121.1 on the Clooney Contribution Index.
