The Malvekian Armed Forces (MAF) are the military forces of Malvekia. It consists of three main service branches; the Royal Malvekian Army, the Royal Malvekian Air Force, and the Royal Malvekian Navy. The Grand Duke of Malvekia is the ceremonial Commander-in-Chief of the MAF. The Prime Minister forms military policy with the Ministry of Defence together with the Department of Internal Security, both acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out, while the Chief of Staff of the Malvekian Armed Forces serves as the overall commander and the highest-ranking officer in the MAF.

In the early ???s, Malaysia undertook a major program to expand and modernise its armed forces. However, budgetary constraints due to the rebuildig of Malvekia after the Second Malvekian Civil War held back many of its procurements. The recent economic recovery may lead to a relaxation of budgetary constraints and a resumption of major weapons purchases. In ???, the Defence Minister also announced a review of national defence and security policy to bring it up to date. The review addressed new security threats that have emerged in the form of low intensity conflicts, such as the kidnapping of Malvekians from island communities located off the east coast of Peninsular Malvekia and the potential risk of territory disputes with several neighbouring countries. Currently, 1.0% of Malaysia's GDP is spent on the military, and employing 1.25% of Malvekia's total population.
The Ministry of Defence is the government ministry charged with formulating and executing defence policy. It currently employs 56,860 civilian staff members as of 2030. Unified combatant commands are joint military commands consisting of forces from multiple military departments, with their chain of command flowing from the prime minister, to the minister of defense, to the commanders of the combatant commands.
The distribution of personnel between the services and categories of service on 2032 was as follows:
Royal Malvekian Army: 210,355 Active Personnel or 58.14% of Total Active Personnel
Royal Malvekian Navy: 76,648 Active Personnel or 21.19% of Total Active Personnel
Royal Malvekian Air Force: 74,800 or 20.67% of Total Active Personnel
As such, the Ministry of Defence has spearheaded a modernisation program of the MAF, beginning with the Royal Malvekian Navy. This involves local players in the development of military naval technology (such as ???) and has resulted in a downsized but modern Malvekian navy. Attempts to expand the modernisation program to other branches of the MAF are hindered by the meager expenditure budget provided for national defence, a mere 1.5% (or M$ 24.075 billion) of the nation's total GDP, which many critics find insufficient in providing Malvekia with revamping her army and providing suitable defensive needs.
Recruitment and Terms of Service
The results of the JDA were devastating. The JDA findings revealed that the MAF was only partially capable of performing its most critical missions in any given time as well as a severe lack of modern equipment to combat emerging challenges and technologies in the battlefield. Moreover, the results pointed overwhelmingly toward institutional and strategic deficiencies as being the root cause of most of the shortcomings. A common thread in all: the lack of strategy-based planning and military funding that resulted in the degradation of Malvekia's military capabilities and the overall decrease in the professionalism of its rank-and-file.
Following the findings of the JDA, the Federal Act No. ??? was approved on ???, which declared it the policy of the State to modernize the MAF to a level where it can effectively and fully perform its constitutional mandate to uphold and preserve the sovereignty of the Grand Duchy of Malvekia, and mandated specific actions to be taken to achieve this end over a 15-year period ending in ???. Federal Act No. ???, approved on ???, amended FA??? to establish a continuation of the revised MAF modernization program lasting another 15 years ending in ???. The act included new provisions for the acquisition of equipment for all the branches of MAF, systemic reforms to the training and management of military personnel, and a complete overhaul of Malvekia's supply and maintenance doctrine and infrastructure to further streamline and assure quality of MAF's combat operations.
Hitherto, the reformation programs of the MAF has been widely considered a success. Increase in capability development in the rank-and-file, successful participation of combat operations in both international and domestic theaters, and a general increase of the civilian population's approval rating in terms of integrity and professionalism are seen as a sign of the effectiveness of the MAF's reformation program.
