The Demographics of Shaytan Ukhiross

With more than 20,000,000,000 inhabitants in late 2012, the population of SHAYTAN UKHIROSS was large, and remains so even after the catastrophic year of A.D. 2013. A sickness, known as the Pale Madness, swept the land, soon followed by the great seism, the Shatterfire, and bloody conflicts resulted from both disasters. Within a few months, the population was halved to around 12,000,000,000.

The population of SHAYTAN UKHIROSS can be divided into three main ethnic groups: the Thaross, the Corianans and the Dostliani.

By far the most numerous of the three with an estimated number of 5,000,000,000 after the Shatterfire, the Thaross live in the southeastern, tropical areas of what used to be Radia (now the volcanic island of Attyras) and, to a lesser extent, in Crimson Sword, where they mix evenly with Dostliani. Native to the island, the Thaross first built up their civilization in the (then) fertile core lands of Medguarde, rapidly expanding to control the whole island. Their influence remains very strong, even after the Pale Madness and the Shatterfire.

The Thaross typically have dark-brown skin and blond hair. They are said to be carefree, ingenious and persistent.

Next in terms of numbers, the Corianans are the descendants of European (mostly French) settlers. Their earliest presence on Radia is believed to be around A.D. 1100, when an explorer wrecked his ship near the shores of the region later (and thus) called Coriano. From the 14th century onwards, steady influx of European settlers continued to enlarge the Corianan population and, by the end of the 16th century, their numbers became so important that conflicts (over land) erupted regularly, mainly against the Thaross. The Aralian Emperors, then-rulers of Shaytan Ukhiross, decided to take action. Following a three-years-long conflict, a peace agreement, the Treaty of Arkis, was reached in A.D. 1612. Following the Shatterfire, most Corianans fled to the northern island of Terre-Nouvelle, where conflicts erupted with Dostliani refugees.

The Corianans typically have pale skin and brown hair. They are said to be artful and cunning.

The Dostliani are a reclusive race of unclear origins (some experts say Slavic), that used to live in the cold , hilly Northern Landes (Shyrog) of the great island of Radia. After the Shatterfire, most of their remaining population either fled to the south, to Terre-Nouvelle, or to the west, to Crimson Sword.

Formerly known to maintain an extremely rigid lifestyle dictated by strict rules and traditions, the Dostliani society has changed greatly since the Shatterfire. While those who settled on Crimson Sword have mixed with the Thaross there, creating an open, hybrid society, their cousins on Terre-Nouvelle have followed an even more isolationist policy than their ancestors, one due to the increasing conflicts with Corianans refugees.

The Dostliani typically have extremely pale skin and black hair.
