Carlos Foster: Governor Elmer Richards Resigns from Re-election Bid Amid Ethics Charges

The suspended governor of the Southern State, Dr. Elmer Richards, announced this morning his resignation from seeking reelection for the Popular Front in the general elections in November.

This comes at a time when the government executive will face a trial in June on two charges of violating the Government Ethics Law.

Richards made the following statement:

"Greetings citizens! As a man of faith and integrity, I have always strived to uphold the values that define our great state. It is with a heavy heart that I address you today to announce my decision to resign as Governor of the Southern State and from my reelection campaign. Meanwhile, Meagan Johnson, the acting governor of the Southern State, registered her campaign committee at the office of the electoral comptroller.
