Constitutional Referendum is Now At Vote!

Today, after much bureaucratic bickering, the constitutional referendum jointly written by President Son Ryo-Gan and Premier Shen Liuxian is at vote by the populace. In the reform, the Premier is now appointed by the President, while the Speaker of the House is voted upon internally by the Legislative Yuan. Members of the military also can no longer be politicians at the same time, though this does not apply retroactively as to not disturb the Executive Yuan's plans.

The Sambhota Coup Fails!

On 2 September, General Jungney Sambhota's government - which had ousted Nyandak Nyima the day prior - was counter-couped by Nyima and her loyalists. However, the damage had already been done, and numerous high-ranking government officials fled back to UCR-controlled Tibet. The financial crisis continues, with 1 USD now equaling a thousand srang, which only continues to inflate in value.

Troubles, Part III

Yesterday, President of Tibet Nyandak Nyima has been ousted by her own General, Jungney Sambhota, for her "irresponsible handling of the economic crisis". By then 1 USD had been equal to 900 srang, and protests against the corporations' boycott continued to grow. The fate of Tibet is unknown, though there are calls from within their government to return to the UCR.

Numerous Politicians Ousted!

Just three days after UA 27 was passed, numerous politicians were found guilty of extortion, which is considered a Treasonous Crime under UA 26. One of those found guilty is Representative of Gansu-3 Pan Jingyi, of the Democracy Party, who had reportedly taken over ¥32 million ($1 million) in bribes from corporations; she was immediately relieved of her position and replaced by New Kuomintang member Ren Tian. Her trial is due on 15 September.

Another guilty politician is Representative of Hunan-4 Zhuan Shun, a member of the New Kuomintang, who took ¥10 million ($312,500) from the Democracy Party in order to vote against laws by his own party. He was also ousted and replaced by Sun Xinyue, also from the NKMT, and his trial is due on 20 September; Matthew Shaw, the leader of the Democracy Party, is currently under investigation for supposedly being in on the corruption.

Treasonous Crimes and Political Donations Prohibition

On the 21st, Representative of Jiangsu-5 Quan Zhong (New Kuomintang) proposed the Treasonous Crimes Act, which would remove the crime of treason and instead classified a number of crimes as treasonous crimes, with the maximum penalty of execution, though that it would require unanimous support from the Supreme Court and the Minister of Justice to be carried out. It passed on the 23rd with a vote of 97 - 78 - 0.

That same day, Representative of Heilongjiang-3 Dai Luoyang (Communist) proposed the Political Donations Prohibition Act, which would outlaw any kind of political donation from any source to politicians except during campaigns, and even then would be monitored by a government oversight committee. It was heavily unpopular with the Democracy Party, leading many to believe that corruption was ongoing, but the law passed with a close 90 - 85 - 0.

Tibetan Economic Collapse!

Just a few days after Nyandak Nyima declared the Free State of Tibet independent from the UCR, the Tibetan economy has spiraled out of control. The reason for this is because the proclaimed currency of Tibet, the srang, was boycotted by numerous companies since it is not registered into the Nikkei and thus cannot be traded with other countries. The srang's value inflated from the planned 10 srang per USD to over 300 srang.

Local officials have threatened their resignation already if Nyima would not solve the situation; one, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that "A crisis would have happened in Turkestan (Xinjiang) if they'd also declared independence, so learn from our mistakes." President Son Ryo-Gan said that "I extend my best wishes to the Tibetan people, and hope that they rejoin so that we can once more stand united."

August 17, '29
Troubles, Part II

Former Governor of Tibet Nyandak Nyima, after being dismissed as Governor, said that "I will still fight for the independence of Tibet, no matter what happens to me" and has held an illegal independence referendum; practically all voters voted in favor of independence. The Free State of Tibet has thus been formed with Nyima as its president and its temporaru capital in Ngari.

President Son Ryo-Gan, having received heavy criticism from Executive Order No. 1, has refused to talk about the situation "for the meantime." Meanwhile, Premier Shen Liuxian has threatened "I am ready to deploy patrols in Xizang (the former official Chinese name for Tibet) in order to maintain the security of the nation." In opposition, Governor of Chonqing and Chairman of the Democracy Party Matthew Shaw said that "This is the collapse of the truly dictatorial New Kuomintang."

Troubles in Tibet

Despite the Minorities Act having already stopped most of the unrest, the Tibetan Independence Movement is still going strong, with many people saying that this threatens the security of the nation. After a government-mandated online poll, President Son Ryo-Gan issued Executive Order No. 1, which officially dismisses Nyandak Nyima as Governor of Tibet after her speech on the 5th, stating that it incorporated treason. (Executive Orders are very powerful in the UCR and require a public vote in order to be passed.) "It truly saddens me to dismiss a member of my own government, but the country takes priority over selfish needs," he said in a speech.

The current Constitution says that a member of the government who loses their position before half of their term is completed must have their position appointed by the next higher position. Since the next gubernatorial election is on 2034, and since the next higher position after Governor is the President, this means that it is President Son's responsibility to appoint Nyima's successor.

BREAKING: As we were writing this, President Son Ryo-Gan announced that Xiao Xinyi, a member of the New Kuomintang would be appointed. He also announced that while Nyandak Nyima would not be able to run for Governor in the next election, she would be allowed to run for other positions, and that she would not be charged with any crimes.

A Climatic Emergency

On the 5th, the government of United Europe-Eurasia announced a diplomatic meeting between numerous government leaders over rising temperatures and sea levels. Because of this, the Legislative Yuan has been buzzing over possible climate laws, but the most successful one was proposed by Representative of Qinghai-4 Tian Yazhu (Democracy) on the 6th. The Regulation of Packaging Act would prohibit the use of styrofoam and styrophor nationwide, as well as ban the use of plastic bags for "dry goods" i.e. non-food items. It was voted upon today and passed with a vote of 114 - 61 - 0.

The Government's Response

In response to the Xinjiang and Tibetan independence movements, Representative of Shanxi-2 Zhu Zexi (New Kuomintang) has proposed a Repeal of the Minority Cultures Act back on the 1st. Voted upon the next day, it passed in a clear political line: 130 - 45 - 0.

In its place did Speaker Shao Hanying propose the Minorities Act on the 3rd, which would give the state more power over the minority cultures in comparison to the Minority Cultures Act. Voted upon on the same day, it passed 121 - 54 - 0.

As a result, Akmetzhan Narimanev resigned as President of the East Turkestan Independence Association, informally known as the East Turkestan Government. Nyandak Nyima said she will not step down as Governor of Tibet, but rather that she will "fight against this law as to ends of my ability."

Ethnic Tensions

Union Act No. 18, the Minority Cultures Act, was accused by the New Kuomintang of being a ploy to destabilize the country. While the Democracy Party has fervently denied this, it has indeed caused tensions to rise in the minority provinces of Xinjiang and Tibet, where independence movements are rising. The East Turkestan Independence Movement, led by Akmetzhan Narimanev, is picking up speed in Urumqi, and they are set to deliver an independence referendum by autumn. Meanwhile, the Tibetan Independence Movement, led by Governor of Tibet Nyandak Nyima, is also very popular and may send a referendum around the same time frame.

President Son Ryo-Gan, who is strongly in favor of a single united China, says that "We must act as one nation and not let our differences get in the way of progress." Premier Shen Liuxian, who is also the Field Marshal, says that "I am considering a military intervention to stop this crisis from starting." Speaker Shao Hanying has quipped "I do not think that this is the end of China; I think this is the end of those independence movements."

July 24, '29
Banks and Welfare

Speaker Shao Hanying's Government Control on Banks Act was later revised to become the Fiscal Regulations Act and was passed today with a vote of 105 - 70 - 0. This act not only allows the government to control banks' interest rates, it also allows for the control of reserves and bond prices. While banks across the nation are attempting to boycott the law, as newly passed laws immediately go into effect, the boycotts simply have no effect.

Meanwhile, Representative of Taiwan-4 Song Xue (New Kuomintang) drafted on the 22nd the Welfare Act, which officially establishes a welfare system for all citizens. It passed today with an outstanding 164 - 11 - 0.

July 18, '29
A New Currency?

With the United Chinese Republic having signed and ratified the East Asian Economic Accord proposed by Hanguk-Nippon, which seeks to establish a common currency between all signatories known as the East Asian Dollar, heavy debate has risen across the nation.

The divisions are nowhere along political lines; Representative of Chongqing-3 Tai Hai, a member of the Democracy Party, says that "A new currency would lead to free trade and economic stimulation", while Representative of Gansu-3 Pan Jingyi - also part of the Democracy Party - says that "The Chinese Yuan would spiral into inflation and lead to the destruction of the economy." President Son Ryo-Gan, who ratified the treaty, says "A common market would lead to the prosperity of all citizens of all nations," while Minister of the Interior Xian Guiying says that "Our own country takes priority over others, thus this treaty shouldn't have been signed in the first place."

July 15, '29
Economic Reforms

After much debate over 5 days, Representative of Hong Kong-3 La Shu-Ren (New Kuomintang) successfully passed the Coins and Banknotes Act with a vote of 112 - 63 - 0. This act officially abolishes the jiao and the 20-yuan banknote, as well as converting the 50-yuan banknote into a coin. It also establishes the standards for the designs of both the coins and the banknotes, and establishes the crime of currency defamation.

Meanwhile, Speaker Shao Hanying has submitted the Government Control on Banks Act, which would give the government more control over banks and their interest rates (among other things). He said "While I doubt any further laws would restore the currency to its old exchange rate, these would control any further inflation and regulate prices, so that everyone can be able to afford anything."

More Executive Yuan News

Today, Premier Shen Liuxian announced the creation of the Ministry of Labor and Industry, which would oversee employment, labor standards, and industrial growth, as well as the Ministry of Public Transportation, which would oversee the trains, buses, airplanes, and other modes of transportation within the nation. He also announced the National Freeways Commission would be moved to the Ministry of Public Transportation.

Premier Shen also announced that while he did draft part of the 2029 Constitutional Amendment, he "was not involved in the section regarding military officials," and had sent a recommendation to President Son Ryo-Gan to change it.

July 9, '29
We Have Come to Bargain

After growing threats from United Europe-Eurasia to stop trade, President Son Ryo-Gan has announced that he is offering a compromise with the UEE in order to avert war. "I indeed want the best for our nation, and I still believe that the UEE has disrespected our sovereignty. But I do not want war. Cooperation will be the only way that world peace will be retained."

The compromise states that the UCR will either get Chongqing and Shanghai fully, or the entirety of Primorsky Krai including Vladivostok (Haishenwai). In exchange, the UCR will revoke any further claims on the UEE's territory, excluding the territory we did not get in this compromise.

Despite expecting outrage from the people due to this anti-nationalist decision, praise for the president came saying that he has averted a possible war, especially after the death toll of the South Caleblanian Civil War.

July 6, '29
Constitutional Referendum

Today, President Son Ryo-Gan announced that he, along with Premier Shen Liuxian and former Speaker of the House Huo Wuhan, have sent out an amendment to the UCR Constitution. One of its major changes is that the Premiership and the Speakership are no longer elected positions; the Premier is now appointed by the President, and the Speaker is elected by the Legislative Yuan/House of Representatives. Another change is that the Speaker and President can now veto laws, but that it can be overturned by the house. Lastly - the most popular of the changes - current military officials can no longer hold political positions.

People's reactions were mixed, with some saying that this was a plot to give the government supreme power over the people, as it was not announced until now. Others say that the amendment would streamline the government and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy. Lastly, Speaker Shao Hanying has said "I am pleased with this decision, as this will allow government processes to be done more easily." The public referendum for the amendment will be held on 1 August.

July 4, '29
Mmoremoreore Laws

Representative of Xinjiang-2 Duan Huo (Democracy) proposed the Minority Cultures Act on the 2nd, which would give special status to the Turks, Tibetans, Mongolians, Manchurians, and Koreans within the nation. It passed today with a 101 - 74 - 0 (note the extra 5 from Xing'an). Duan herself commented on the amount of people against the proposal, saying that "the other parties vote against anyone against their party, even if it goes with their beliefs."

Speaker Shao Hanying (Communist) proposed the Penal Productivity Act on the 3rd, which would allow prisoners to shorten their sentence by allowing them to do work such as construction and farming; it also creates a Penal Education System which gives prisoners education. It passed with a 123 - 52 - 0.

We Withdraw From The International Jury!

Today, President Son Ryo-Gan announced that the UCR has announced their withdrawal from the International Jury, led by United Europe-Eurasia. In the announcement he stated "I, at first, thought that the UEE was a protector of all Chinese people, that they would protect our sovereignty. But they have shown blatant disrespect on our sovereignty, and this cannot be accepted." He also later stated that the UEE's embassy will not be closed, but that it will be heavily monitored by security.

In place of the International Jury, President Son is considering setting up another international alliance, especially with Hanguk-Nippon, South Caleblan, and East Sakhlin. Premier Shen Liuxian meanwhile has ordered the Yellow Sea Squadron to keep the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan under patrol.

Mongolian Split Leads To Possible Upper House

After many revisions, Representative of Jilin-1 Dong Wuhan (Communist)'s Division of Inner Mongolia Act passed with a close 87 - 83 - 0. Instead of dividing the province into 3, due to its low population it was revised into just two, with Suiyuan to the west and retaining Hohhot and Inner Mongolia's current government, and Xing'an to the east and headed in Chifeng.

This proposal led to some arguing that we should reform the legislature. One proposal suggests dividing provinces into districts that are proportionate to population and needn't have much complications with the provincial government, and that these districts would send one representative each to the House of Representatives; while a National Assembly would be the upper house and have nationwide candidates.

Laws, Laws, Laws, Laws, Laws

In response to the dispute over the National Freeways Commission, Representative of Gansu-3 Pan Jingyi (Democracy) drafted the Anti-Air Pollution Act on the 25th, which would prohibit excessive air pollution from vehicles as well as from industry. While expected to be heavily controversial, it surprisingly passed with a good 148 - 22 - 0.

Speaker Shao Hanying drafted the Extended Minimum Wage Act on the 26th, which builds upon the Minimum Wage Act and allows for salary bonuses, as a response the near monetary crisis. It passed with a calm 129 - 41 - 0.

Lastly, Representative of Jilin-1 Dong Wuhan (Communist) is proposing the Division of Inner Mongolia Act, which would split the province into three - Hulunbuir, Xilingol, and Alxa. While some have accused the proposal as being a gerrymander, many have also praised it by stating that Inner Mongolia is too large. The HR/LY will vote on it on the 29th.

Highways Or Trees?

Today, a big debate sparked in the Executive Yuan after the National Freeways Commission was formally established under the Ministry of the Interior. While the plan to connect all of China with freeways was lauded by many people, including President Son Ryo-Gan and Speaker Shao Hanying, Minister of the Environment Feng Chao has been very outspoken against this.

"Freeways encourage car use, which increases air pollution and harms the planet as a whole," she said in an announcement in New Taipei. "Do we still want to live in this Earth? Of course! But this plan to build a multitude of these freeways in the country will choke the planet and doom us all. We have ought to stop this plan right now - and I implore for the veto power of the President for this."

In response, Minister of the Interior Xian Guiying said "I do deeply care about the environment, but simply building roads does not necessarily mean that everyone will use cars. Anyways, the roads are to connect everyone, and a disconnected nation is a nation that will fall apart. The entire world needs to help the environment, but we as a nation need to protect our interests first."

The War Has Ended

Today, the United Chinese Republic (UCR), the Kingdom of South Caleblan (KSC), and the Islands Republic of South Caleblan (IRSC) have signed the Treaty of Tacloban City which formally ends the South Caleblanian Civil War.

In the Treaty, the IRSC is given independence with sovereignty over all the former Philippine territories (Visayas and Mindanao), and Hokoan gets the First Division of Sarawak. In exchange, the UCR pays about $75,000,000 (CYN 2,325,000,000) to the KSC for the amelioration of their economy.

June 17, '29
Time Zones

Representative of Tibet-5 Chokzay Pandita (Democracy) proposed a Time Zones Act two days ago which would split the nation into 3 time zone regions, so that the time on clocks would match local time. It passed today with a nice 153 - 17 - 0.

June 14, '29
Fast as Lightning

The newly inaugurated Speaker Shao Hanying has indeed delivered his promise to fix the monetary crisis, as his Union Act No. 13 - the Reformed Tax Code Act - was passed by the House in an unanimous 170 - 0 - 0. The RTCA adds a 7.5% income tax to everyone, but many tax breaks for certain circumstances, such as having children and working for the government, are available. It also adds a significant property tax which grows for owning more than 2 properties, continuing his principle of taxing the rich more.

In a press interview, he said "I highly doubt that this crisis will end right now. However, what I am sure about is that this is the first step in alleviating the problem." He later said "Prices will most likely remain the same, even after the crisis. I assure you though that your salary will be compensated as a result."

June 12, '29
No Confidence

On 10 June 2029, Representative of Chongqing-4 Xing Yating (Democracy) announced that Speaker Huo Wuhan is an ineffective leader since he has done barely anything to solve the looming financial crisis, and proposed a motion of no confidence to oust him. It was voted upon the next day, with an overwhelming majority - 132 against 38 - voting in favor of it. Huo thus conceded defeat and resigned.

After some discussions, the Liberal Democratic Party officially announced that Representative of Heilongjiang-1 Shao Hanying (Communist) will become the next Speaker, after numerous members of the Democracy Party refused to take the role. Shao Hanying, the only Communist Party member to not have joined the People's Coalition, is strongly in favor of keeping the ISTA and using alternative methods of decreasing prices.

June 9, '29
A Nation Divided

Yesterday, with the protests against rising prices, the government has split into two major coalitions. The People's Coalition, made up of the New Kuomintang and the Communist Party, has declared itself the socialist side and supports the retention of Union Act No. 4 (the Increased Sales Tax Act, or ISTA) and using more legislation to curb capitalist control as well as lower prices. On the other hand is the Liberal Democratic Party, made up of the Democracy Party and Liberal Party (long-time readers should know that these parties were once united) as well as Representative of HLJ-1 Shao Hanying of the Communist Party, who has declared itself more capitalist and would rather repeal Union Act No. 4, and make a new tax code to lower prices. The reason Shao Hanying joined the LDP rather than the PC is because, in a press interview, he said "I disagreed with their choice to continue to add restrictions on corporations. Indeed, I am socialist, but what we need right now is to lower prices, and adding more restrictions will only make this worse."

There have also been a few new House laws. Union Act No. 11, proposed by Representative of HKG-4 Zhang Lin (NKMT/PC), which repeals Union Act No. 3 (the Secrecy of Correspondence Act) since it prevents law enforcement from retrieving potentially important information on criminals. It passed 138 - 28 - 10. Another is Union Act No. 12 (the Minimum Wage Act), proposed by Representative of JLN-2 Shi Yin (CP/PC), which installs a minimum wage of CYN 240 per hour. It passed 147 - 23 - 0.

June 7, '29
Too High To Riot

While not a full-scale protests like the anti-war or anti-UEE protests, today citizens have complained in social media and even directly to the government about the high prices of everything. Even with the rate of inflation - 1 USD is now equal to 30 CYN - prices have soared above normal rates; for example, bread would normally cost around CYN 80, but in most supermarkets, it costs CYN 160. People have pinpointed this to Union Act No. 4, the Increased Sales Tax Act, which supposedly makes the burden lighter on the middle class by increasing tax on the wealthy. However, they say that this only means that companies would raise the price of their products, compensating for the tax.

In response, President Son Ryo-Gan announced a few things. His immediate response to the crisis was to order the Chinese Central Bank to begin printing CYN 5000 and CYN 10000 banknotes, but he remarked "This is only a band-aid solution to a hemorrhage on our economy and our people." His main plan was to propose laws allow for tax breaks and tax exemptions, and to possibly set a maximum price for goods and services. This has been well received by the socialist government (the New Kuomintang, the Democracy Party, and the Communist Party have all aligned to be socialist), but the mainly capitalist Liberal Party is in heavy disagreement.

War Never Changes

In response to the Battle of the Three Rivers, a disastrous battle in which Colonel Qian Hua was captured, protests have risen in the capital Taiwan asking for the war to end. Headed by Lian Hanying, the protesters have claimed that the war has brought nothing to the nation but suffering.

President Son Ryo-Gan has stepped in and announced to the protesters "We have heard your voices, and we will do something to solve this problem." Shortly afterwards, Vice Admiral Su Cai's remaining troops - which have been holed up in Manila - have been ordered to return home. A few other naval patrols in the South China Sea have also returned, though aerial patrols remain.

As for the ground forces, President Son said "For now, they will stay in Mindanao. Time will tell if we can return them home." Major General Temujin Uge is still commanding Operation Ultramarine, while Colonel Lian Zheng couped the Democratic Republic and will most likely stay there for a while, as he was found innocent of filibustering.

June 1, '29
Laws, Laws, Laws...

Today, the Settlement of the Western Territories Act, drafted by Representative of HLJ-3 Dai Luoyang, was passed with a cool 132 - 38 - 0. Modified from his original Western Territories Housing Project Act, this law would encourage citizens to move to provinces such as Tibet and Xinjiang in order to more rapidly modernize the provinces, as well as increase their productivity.

The Street Crimes Act by Representative of CQG-4 Xing Yating also passed, with an even better 157 - 10 - 3. This standardises crimes and their punishments, such as jaywalking, overspeeding, obstruction, cutting over, and more.

May 31, '29
Aggression and Terror

The 4th Day of the Anti-Eurasian protests has led to United Europe-Eurasia taking extreme measures against the government for not acting. Claiming that the protests are a "terror against Eurasian humanity" (note the word choice), they have threatened closing borders and pressing charges with our nation, and even using their police force against our citizens.

Matthew Shaw, the leader of the protests, said that "This is exactly why we are protesting. The unethical efforts of the UEE against nations that are not their own is why we want them out of the country." President Son Ryo-Gan still maintains the possibility of a diplomatic solution, saying "There is no need to protest. The UEE have always been our supporters, and even helped get our country freedom. Protest, in this scenario, will only make matters worse." Lastly, Premier Shen Liuxian said in a press conference "The UEE should realise that this is our jurisdiction, and that a police intervention would be synonymous with a military invasion."

May 29, '29
Are We Loyal To Our Own Country?

Yesterday, Matthew Shaw - the (somewhat infamous) leader of the Democratic Party - staged a protest in Chongqing against the United Europe-Eurasian partial control of the city. Soon after, thousands joined by his side in blockading the streets and surrounding administrative buildings. In fact, Fu Zhemin - the leader of the ideologically similar Liberal Party - staged a twin protest in Shanghai, which was equally as successful.

Local efforts have been unable to stop the protests, considering that Matthew Shaw is the Governor of Chongqing. Use of the police force was attempted, but they ended up joining the protests, and to those who did not, Matthew Shaw asked "Are we even loyal to our own country, or want so much to protect the rights of another?" The blocking of roads, as suggested by the UEE, was also considered but was found even worse. And military use was dare not said at all.

Only time will tell what will happen.

Laws, Laws!

The Agricultural Subsidies Act, proposed by Representative of Gansu-3 Pan Jingyi from the Democracy Party, was finally put into vote today and passed with a good 119 - 50 - 1. This new law, working with the Executive Yuan's already existing agricultural subsidies, was said to "nourish and support local farmers that feed the nation."

The Parental Leave Act, proposed by Representative of Hong Kong-5 Qin Shui from the New Kuomintang, was also voted upon today and passed with an also amazing 143 - 24 - 3. This act says whats in its name - that new parents shall be given at least 90 days of paid leave. Expecting women are to also be given paid leave at the start of the third trimester.

New proposals include a Repeal of Union Act No. 6, i.e. the Mandatory Vaccinations Act, since it is "too imposing on the people of the nation" and should be replaced; a Western Territories Housing Projects Act, where houses in the western territories are to be built by the government and to have their prices lowered; and a Street Crimes Act, which would standardise laws regarding traffic violations.

Total War

A few days ago, on 20 May, a small naval skirmish between Vice Admiral Su Cai's squadron of 15 ships and a Monarchist fleet of 10 ships occurred in the Basilan Strait. While Su won the day afterwards, his force was heavily damaged and only 3 ships remained; to repair, he decided to anchor at Iloilo City, to the north under the jurisdiction of East Sakhlin. He believed that even the Monarchists could not dare to attack a neutral nation.

However, he was wrong, since on 22 May a large combined Monarchist force of ships, planes, and some infantry bombarded the city. All 3 ships were sunken, as well as numerous civilian and neutral military ships; the harbour has been devastated as well as much of the city. Vice Admiral Su Cai led the retreat of not only his military but also the civilians in the area to an undisclosed position.

At the same, another Monarchist fleet began bombarding Brookston, the declared capital of the Democratic Republic of South Caleblan. The Battle of Samal was a sudden surprise to Major General Temujin Uge, who was able to prepare enough to stop a naval landing. Not too much has been destroyed so far, but the battle has just begun, so anything could happen.

Government leaders have reacted strongly to the attack. King Brutus I Ivanov reacted "Do not underestimate us and do not try us.... [a]nyone who doubts the strength or determine of East Sakhlin... will doubt it no longer." President Son Ryo-Gan has announced "What was supposed to be a peaceful restoration of democracy has become total war", while Premier Shen Liuxian has remarked "Whoever opposes us will face the full force of freedom."

May 20, '29
It's Time to Take Action

Premier Shen Liuxian promised to take action ten days ago after creating so many Ministries, and today he fulfilled that promise. He began the Local Agricultural Administration under the Ministry of Agriculture to subsidise farmers and aid them with supplies; mandated the K-12 educational scheme in all public schools, transitioning it into the next school year; and founded the Narcotic Control Agency under the MHPW to crack down on drug use.

The Liberal Party (and more in the LY)

Today, Fu Zhemin - President of Xinshiye Enterprises and the Democracy Party candidate for Premier earlier this year - leaves his party and creates a new one, the Liberal Party, aimed at protecting the rights of corporations in the nation, as well as propose more capitalist policies. "Without independent business, the economy will collapse, and the nation will lose its unity," he said in his founding speech.

Not too long afterwards, numerous Democracy Party candidates for Governorships and Representativeships have also joined the Liberal Party, and are sending proposals to the LY to introduce more capitalist laws. Speaker Huo Wuhan (NKMT) has been outspoken regarding this, saying "With the corporations controlling the nation, the people will lose their voice", while Premier Shen Liuxian has said "It is the people's will the government should listen to, not to the corporations'."

Within the LY itself, Representative of Hong Kong-4 Zhang Lin (Nationalist) proposal for tariffs on imported goods has gained speed amongst the Representatives, and during voting today the combined force of all three parties led to it being passed with an amazing 145 - 22 - 3. Meanwhile, Speaker Huo Wuhan's Mandatory Vaccinations Act also passed, though with a less stellar 89 - 78 - 3 due to combined disapproval from the Democracy Party and the Liberal Party.

News in the Executive Yuan

Premier Shen Liuxian has announced that the Executive Yuan has created some new Ministries. He started with the Ministry of Defence, which he created (with the advice of the current Cabinet) on 14 May, in reaction to the South Caleblanian Civil War. He continued with the Ministry of Agriculture, created on 16 May with discussions over purchasing Mongolia to supply the country's food needs, and ended with the new Ministry of the Environment, though he has yet to appoint a Minister for that position. Premier Shen closed by suggesting a Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, a Ministry of Finance and the Economy, and a Ministry of Justice.

Corporate Tycoons "Not Amused" With New Laws

With the passage of Union Act No. 4 two days ago, corporate tycoons across the country have voiced their disapproval of the high sales tax rates. Most notably is Fu Zhemin, the Democracy candidate for Premier in this year's elections, who also controls the largest telecommunications company in the nation, Xinshiye Enterprises. "This is a very bad development because it is us companies that help deliver services to the people, and with the new tax we are unable to do so," he said in an interview. He also said "I do not blame the New Kuomintang, nor the Communist Party, nor even my own Democracy Party. I simply think that the high sales tax is a bad idea."

Other entrepreneurs haven't been so calm in the situation. Yan Jie, the CEO of Kaidao, the nation's main car industry, has boycotted the government by reportedly seizing all police vehicles from his company. He has also blocked off the Legislative Yuan building with his cars, much to the dismay of both the citizens and government officials. Speaker Huo Wuhan commented on this, saying "We need democracy, but not when it infringes on the rights of others... this act is bordering on the level of government obstruction." Some key players in the government, including Representative of HLJ-1 Shao Hanying (the author of Union Act No. 4), have even clamoured for Yan Jie's arrest.

Secret Letters and Big Business Taxes

Yesterday, Representative of Chongqing-2 Yi Hanying (Democracy) proposed a law which would disallow the opening of letters before it has been delivered as long as there is no suspicion of conspiracy, a legal principle known as secrecy of correspondence. Despite receiving much negative press due to Speaker Huo Wuhan stating it "allows criminals to communicate right under the watchful eyes of the law", as well as negative responses from many Nationalist representatives, when it was voted upon today it passed with a 103 - 56 - 11.

Representative of Heilongjiang-1 Shao Hanying (Communist)'s act taxing rich individuals and businesses, which was been formulated into the Increased Sales Tax Act (ISTA), has also been voted upon today, and its positive press worked well for the normally controversial Communists, as it passed with a stunning 156 - 10 - 4.

Speaker Huo Wuhan's own Mandatory Vaccinations Act, meanwhile, is still under scrutiny, especially by the Democracy Party, for infringing too far on the right to choose, though the joint support by the Nationalists and the Communists may win it over in the next LY meeting. And Representative of Hong Kong-4 Zhang Lin (Nationalist) is proposing a 10% tariff on all goods that enter the country, campaigning it by saying it encourages local businesses.

The South Caleblanian Civil War

Minister of Foreign Affairs Qin Wuying announced on May 1 that since the nation of South Caleblan has claims overlapping internationally recognised claims by other nations, particularly over the Philippines between them and East Sakhlin (a major ally), there would be no diplomatic relations between the UCR and SC. Despite this, President Son Ryo-Gan stated that we are a nation devoted to spreading democracy, and since the South Caleblanian people have long protested the authoritarian rule of Queen Lana I, we will be sending military aid to depose the tyrant.

Today, Major General Temujin Uge, sent the 54th Division to Brookston, the capital of South Caleblan, and is making plans to storm the palace and oust Queen Lana. However, the South Caleblanian military is loyal to her, and fighting is expected - marking the beginning of what some call the South Caleblanian Civil War.

More and More Government News!

Today, Premier Shen Liuxian's Executive Yuan has expanded even further, with his Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education being both accepted. He stated in an interview that "The government has formed well and stability has finally come to the nation." He later added that "Now that the Ministries have formed, it is time for action."

Meanwhile, in the Legislative Yuan, Speaker Huo Wuhan's Nationalisation of Pharmaceutical Companies Act passed with a 145 - 23 - 2. Its main resistance comes from a coalition of the Representatives of Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Tianjin, as well as some more fiscal Representatives of other provinces. Otherwise, though, it has strong support and is likely to be supported by a Mandatory Vaccinations Act. To fund these programs though, Representative of Heilongjiang-1 Shao Hanying is proposing a large tax on large businesses and rich individuals; despite the bad reputation of the Communist Party for being too extreme, the proposal has garnered much positive attention.

Roswaesian Presumably Involved in Manchurian Drug Bust

Today, 10 non-Chinese people - 4 of whom have been identified - were caught trafficking drugs into the nation. Led by Filipp Mikhailistin, the gang originated from United Europe-Eurasia and sent drugs into the country through the city of Harbin, but were caught early morning yesterday. However, one supposed members - Ivan "Vanya" Romanovich Preobrazhensky - appears to not be involved in the gang and has merely been unluckily included in the raid. All 10 gang members are currently being detained in Nanjing, in the UEE embassy.

More Government News!

Today, Premier Shen Liuxian's proposal for the Ministry of the Interior passed, while his Ministry of Health was revised to the Ministry of Public Health and Welfare. His Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education are still under scrutiny, however, though both have been praised by President Son Ryo-Gan, who said they were "vital in maintaining that our nation is at the forefront in beneficial global developments".

Meanwhile, in the Legislative Yuan, the Constitutional Crimes Act passed with a remarkable unanimous 170 - 0 - 0. Proposed by Speaker Huo Wuhan, it states that since the Constitution respects a person's right to self and right to property, among others, act such as murder and theft (and their derivatives) are thus illegal. New possible acts include the one proposed by President Son Ryo-Gan a month ago - regarding the nationalisation of pharmaceuticals - and one regarding capital punishment.

Appointed as its head, the new Minister Qin Wuying has immediately begun an embassy program with numerous nations, such as East Sakhlin, United Europe-Eurasia, and Laver Island.

The program, which has been successful so far in cementing our nation's stance in international diplomacy and politics, was remarked on by President Son. Meningococcal Disease Outbreak!

Two days ago, Catherine Ivanov, the daughter of Brutus I Ivanov of East Sakhlin and Maria Ivanov of The sakhalinsk empire, was diagnosed with meningococcal disease. Shortly afterwards, numerous hospitals across Taiwan have also reported cases of meningococcal disease in some patients - with one case coming from Hong Kong - and soon hospitals' ER rooms were crowded with emergencies.

With the death toll reaching 10 already, President Son Ryo-Gan has announced that a meningococcal disease epidemic has occurred in the United Chinese Republic, authorising quarantines and preventions of travel. "This is a most worrying development, as it was completely unexpected and would leave many families devastated." He announced a vaccine program in many southern Chinese cities, such as Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Fuzhou, which would later expand to eastern China and eventually western China.

Today, on 25 March, President Son Ryo-Gan announced that the elections would be postponed for 15 April. He stated that "We in the government have decided that, to allow the numerous candidates more time to expand on their political views, as well for them to campaign more, we will delay the election two weeks."

He also later announced that the New Kuomintang, established in 2028 by he himself, is now an officially registered political party. Many candidates have been campaigning under the NKMT banner but now they can finally actually be a member of the white sun.

Elections Heating Up!

The 2029 Special Elections are just two weeks away, and the numerous candidates of the New Kuomintang, Communist Party, and Democracy Party are campaigning with all of their might for the many Gubernatorial positions, as well as the national positions of Premier and Speaker (of the Yuan).

For the Premier, currently in the lead is Superior General Shen Liuxian (New Kuomintang), who said that he was "forced" to run by President Son Ryo-Gan; nevertheless, he continues campaigning nationwide, winning over many Communist provinces as well as the New Kuomintang ones. For Speaker, however, it is currently an open ballot - the only defined candidate is New Kuomintang Huo Wuhan, though Major General Temujin Uge (we wrote an article about him just below) is considering running for the Communist Party.

Many people are protesting on social media the fact that numerous military officers (such as SG Shen Liuxian) are running for political positions, with a multitude fearing a military coup. Vice President Cheng Kai-Li has dismissed such claims, simply stating "It is a part of the political process."

A second poll was held in the different provinces to see if there have been any political developments. While the majority of Ningxia is now voting for the Communists, and Henan for the New Kuomintang, everything is the same.

The Manchurian Candidate

Today, Colonel Temujin Uge of the Manchu States, who was the first Manchurian to defect to the UCR, was promoted to Major General by none other than Superior General Shen Liuxian himself. Regarding the occasion, SG Shen said that "His patriotism and determination in the unification of China by the Chinese is truly a monument to how resilient we really are."

MG Temujin, as mentioned above, was formerly part of the Army of the Manchu States as a Colonel, most notably participating in Ivan's War and as a military leader of the independent Manchu States in the (failed) Manchu War for Independence. He is currently leading the occupation of the city of Vladivostok.

White Bear Protests Force East Sakhalinian Royal Family To Seek Refuge in UCR

The White Bear Society, or WBS, is an ultra-nationalist movement in East Sakhlin with currently unknown motives. Yesterday, their paramilitary, the Nation's Claw, drove King Brutus I Ivanov and his wife Queen Maria Ivanov out of the Royal Palace and occupied the capital. They are currently seeking refuge in Taiwan.

There have been critics of President Son Ryo-Gan, such as Democracy Party Chairman Matthew Shaw, who have exaggerated the situation by saying "It appears that the monarchy we have fought to overthrow has found its way back into the nation."

The Battle of the Paracel Islands

A supposed "naval training exercise" by the Sakhalinsk Empire has intercepted one of our own, surrounding the Paracel Islands and threatening naval attacks on our fleet if we do not back down. This is very worrying to the peace that has been developing, and Vice President Cheng Kai-Li has stated that "Even after formally surrendering, the Sakhalinsk Empire still fights us. This is very undiplomatic and is a disgrace to worldwide diplomacy."

Elections Are Rolling Out!

With the unification of all of China, President Son Ryo-Gan has announced a provincial election for each of the new provinces. People are rushing to declare their candidacy for Governor, Premier, and Speaker, and campaigns are on overdrive in many major cities.

Three major political parties have developed. The first is the New Kuomintang, founded by President Son Ryo-Gan and headed in Taipei; they have strong control of the "old" provinces (Taiwan, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi) as well as much of the southwest and east. The second is the Democracy Party, stemming from its Hong Kong roots as well as the Democratic Progressive Party in old Taiwan, led by Matthew Shao (Shao Xiuying) and based in Hong Kong; its control is mainly in the autonomous provinces in the west. Lastly, the Communist Party, obviously coming from the one in former China, is headed by Shi Xuefeng and based in Beijing; its control is mainly in the north.

We've Killed the Hero of Korea

Today, the week-long Battle of the Yangtze has ended, with our forces pushing Sakhalinsk troops north of the river. Their leader, General Hashimoto Kojuro, was injured in the opening fires and was finally killed, allegedly by Superior General Shen Liuxian himself. Their attempted missile strikes were successfully countered by our anti-missile developments in southern China, and Vice Admiral Su Cai has sacked the city of Kagoshima. We're going to win the war.

National Inflation at an All-Time High!

Today, the Chinese Central Bank reported that the yuan (CYN), formerly 5 to 1 USD, has spiralled out of control and has hit 15 CYN to 1 USD. Prices have skyrocketed and mass protests against the Central Bank are being staged, with the latest one threatening to storm the building and replace the currency.

President Son Ryon-Gan has announced that "Once the currency hits 20 CYN to 1 USD, we will begins discussing a new currency for the nation. For now, we will implement anti-inflation measures". The approval ratings of he himself are still very high but faith in the government as a whole is decreasing.
