Madison Square Garden Takes Facial Recognition Security Too Far
https://odysee.com/@AlphaNerd:8/msg-takes-facial-recognition-security:6

Do you support the use of facial recognition technology in crowded public areas? Do you wear a hat, polarized sunglasses, and a face mask when you're out and about? How good of an idea is it to kick a lawyer out of a public venue because of their association with a law firm that has previously sued one of your business concerns?

I wouldn't wish month to month uncertainty on anyone, much less week to week uncertainty... Knowing people in Ukraine puts another perspective in mind of course.

Being on the edge of your means always is a cloud but we must be thankful for what we have.

Sorry in advance if I CTE again.

Internet Censorship is COMING! This You NEED To Know!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-GO8QMM-sI

Are you excited for a softer, cuddlier internet, where people's feelings are never hurt and only truth propagates online?

Part 1: What is the WEF? Purpose Driven | Public Occurrences, Ep. 110

There are clearly some people who are strongly against the World Economic Forum (WEF), its initiatives, and outlooks, such as Michael O'Fallon featured here. Are you familiar with any of their various causes célèbres, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environmental Social and Governance ratings (ESG), the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Young Global Leaders program, or the infamous Great Reset?

Well, the WEF are having their annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland this week (https://www.weforum.org/events/world-economic-forum-annual-meeting-2023), and world leaders, corporate executives, academics, religious leaders, leaders of significant NGOs, social entrepreneurs, and billionaire philanthropists will all be convening to discuss this year's theme, "Cooperation in a Fragmented World". Will you be keeping up with the events?

Many of their plenary sessions are available on their site or YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@wef/streams). Bloomberg often broadcasts interviews from high profile business, economics, and political attendees (https://www.bloomberg.com/live) with archives scattered around their awkwardly organized btv offerings (e.g. https://www.bloomberg.com/btv/series/bloomberg-surveillance-early-edition or https://www.bloomberg.com/btv/series/bloomberg-surveillance).

In-Person Schooling and Youth Suicide: Evidence from School Calendars and Pandemic School Closures
https://www.nber.org/papers/w30795

This study explores the effect of in-person schooling on youth suicide. We document three key findings. First, using data from the National Vital Statistics System from 1990-2019, we document the historical association between teen suicides and the school calendar. We show that suicides among 12-to-18-year-olds are highest during months of the school year and lowest during summer months (June through August) and also establish that areas with schools starting in early August experience increases in teen suicides in August, while areas with schools starting in September don’t see youth suicides rise until September. Second, we show that this seasonal pattern dramatically changed in 2020. Teen suicides plummeted in March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began in the U.S. and remained low throughout the summer before rising in Fall 2020 when many K-12 schools returned to in-person instruction. Third, using county-level variation in school reopenings in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021—proxied by anonymized SafeGraph smartphone data on elementary and secondary school foot traffic—we find that returning from online to in-person schooling was associated with a 12-to-18 percent increase teen suicides. This result is robust to controls for seasonal effects and general lockdown effects (proxied by restaurant and bar foot traffic), and survives falsification tests using suicides among young adults ages 19-to-25. Auxiliary analyses using Google Trends queries and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey suggests that bullying victimization may be an important mechanism.

I tl;dr'ed the actual working paper, but that abstract is pretty crazy. Do you think that the association the authors found between in-person schooling and youth suicide is actually causal? If so, is it bullying as the authors suspect, or is it other stressors or circumstances associated with in-person schooling? Should something be done about it? Are there better ways than what we're using now?

Freelance work when nobody wants to spend money on freelance in January resulted in the inevitable: I'm probably going to the food bank this month unless I get a second job soon (the market is falling apart) and I didn't think I'd ever have to do it.

Got the rent, heat, immediate debtors at bay though!

Positives.

Stay warm, and don't feel ashamed to seek help when you need it. I'm afraid I don't know enough to be helpful, but might the job market be better in other locales? I ask this because sometimes people inadvertently limit their job search to areas they're in, when those areas are without a lot of opportunity.
Stay strong and Godspeed.

Support appreciated, we'll see where the needle moves on my decision making soon. Just monitoring the savings and income trend now so I can make the adjustment before we start hitting credit hard.

The farmers fighting back against the irrational elites
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/02/10/the-farmers-fighting-back-against-the-irrational-elites/

Now French farmers have joined the tractor revolt against the laptop classes.

Have you seen much coverage of the French or Dutch farmer protests in the news? How are the protesters characterized? Do you support the requirement for French (or other European) farmers to stop using neonicotinoids as pesticides, even if it dramatically reduces crop yields? Is it reasonable to believe that the shortfall will simply be made up for by other countries that don't have a ban on neonicotinoids?

N-Day... I don't think I like it that much.

Beware the risk of contagion.

The second video about the ABC producer disappearing was pretty weird. Where's James Gordon Meek? Has he suffered the same fate as Michael Hastings? Was his cover blown, causing him to abandon his assignment as a producer at a major news outfit? Was he an amateur that got in over his head?
