The Democratic Peoples Republic of The Xolbarian Opposition is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Benjamin Myers with an even hand, and notable for its compulsory omnivore diets, irreverence towards religion, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate population of 4 billion Xolbarians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defense, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Potat. The average income tax rate is 68.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The powerhouse Xolbarian economy, worth about 400 trillion Credits a year, is quite specialized and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Book Publishing, Tourism, and Furniture Restoration. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 91,739 Credits, and distributed extremely evenly, with the rich on,y making about 3.7 times as much as the poor. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Xolbarian Opposition's national animal is the Xi Bear, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Xolt.

History

The One Week War (The Xolbaria, The Xolbarian Opposition Conflict)

In 1886 the land that is currently occupied by the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition was once owned by Xolbaria. Xolbaria was a tyrannical communist dictatorship where corruption was common and freedom was unheard of. Many spoke out but were terminated on the spot. One man named Bob Rogers wanted freedom. He, being the mayor of his city, got his people to agree to secede, some wanted to, others didn’t. They got into a bloody war with Xolbaria in which they were severely outnumbered. He led his city to victory after only a week of tireless fighting. They used new and innovative techniques to win the war such as gunpowder lighting, common barrel extending, and various illusive traps.

Geography

The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition is an archipelago off the coast of California in the United States. The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition is known for their many lakes and winding rivers, many of which freeze in the winter which makes it great for ice skating. The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition has twenty eight islands but five main ones.

There’s the island of Xolbor, known for the city of Xolbor’s vast fish markets and the two volcanoes Pæth, the small one and ßola the larger one. The island of Bilæ is the largest island in the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition known for lake Guanhitœ and the capital city, Potat. Haligrad is the second largest island in the archipelago. It’s off the coast of Bilæ and is known for the largest mountain in the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition, Mount Huæ. It’s also home to Yinil, known for its great universities.

Lastly the Baltas and Wœld islands each with their respective cities. Baltas known for skiing on Mount Xoa and Wœld known for its great boating in Lake Juæ. The islands get very snowy in the winter, helping to generate the skiing industry.

Demographics

The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition has an estimated population of 4 billion, ranking relatively high in the world. A census is taken every year, with the first taking place in 1904. While the birthrate is only 15 per 1000, the population growth rate is 0.8%, the result of immigration. The largest ancestry groups included Xo, Sica, and Grocs. 62.8% of the population are Xolt, 16.2% are Groc, and 1.2% are Sica.

Xoli is the de facto national language. Approximately 70% of the population speaks Xoli as a first language, with another 23% speaking English as a first language. The third most dominant language was New Groc, with 0.9% of the population being native speakers.

Government

The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition is a constitutional democratic
people’s republic. Majority rule is the way most elections are conducted with some taking minority vote into more consideration.

The citizens of the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition have many freedoms in government such as having total control of who gets elected with no electoral college. Citizens over 35 can are also allowed to and encouraged to vote on new legislation to ensure that all citizens are heard and have choice in lawmaking.

There are three branches in which any citizen over 25 can be a part of.

Ministry Branch:
Acts on, votes on, and recommends new legislation to better their department and the service it provides. They run, manage, and lead the service their department provides.

Judiciary Branch:
Votes on and hears court proceedings that has made their way to the High Court of Xolbaria. Can overturn elections and votes if found to defy constitutional law and/or is actively harming the people. Can also vote to kick government officials if valid reason is stated.

Legislative Branch:
Votes on, passes, and hears recommendations of new legislation to better the country and benefit the citizens. Has the right to vote on re-counts, vote on compromises, and vote on repeals of legislation passed previously.

The last step in every decision made. The head of everything.

Foreign Relations

The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition takes an active role in the world diplomatic stage. It is a member of the World Assembly and the region of the South Pacific. With the exception of the One Week War, the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition has been officially neutral in all armed conflicts since its total independence from The Xolbaria.

Economy

The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition operates under a system of free market capitalism. According to the NationStates Tracker, the nominal GDP is $65,619,500,000,000. The private sector is estimated to constitute 45.9% of the economy, with federal, regional, and local government accounting for 55.1%. Unemployment is at 11.6%, largely due to the lack of employment regulations throughout the country.

Information technology is currently the nation's largest industry, followed by book publishing, furniture restoration, and basket weaving. Tourism and fishing are other important drivers of the Xolbarian economy.

Culture

The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition is home to a variety of cultures, a result of a many native tribes still livening in the area. Xolbarian culture is generally considered strong, derived from traditions of Xolt culture. There are also large Sica and Groc populations. Like other Island nations, the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition has been described as a melting pot where several native cultures join into one.

Xolbarians have been described as very collectivistic, kind, and hardworking. This has resulted in great economic productivity, and a democratic libertarian form of government. This has also made the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition a popular destination for immigrants. Xolbarians are also firm believers in equality, and do not think that one social class should have more rights than others.

Religion

The majority of the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition population identifies as Xolt. 32% identify as Christian, with 29% identifying as Catholic and 10% as Protestant. The nonreligious account for 24% of the population, while Jews make up 3%. All other faiths collectively make up 2% of the population. The Constitution of the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition guarantees religious freedom, and prevents legislation that favors any religion over another. In addition, discrimination based on religion is illegal, with the exception of explicitly religious organizations such as churches.

According to a survey in 2045, 46% of the population said that religion played a "very important role in their lives." Xolt and Catholic are the most devout groups in the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition, while church attendance among Protestant sects is fairly low. The percentage of irreligious people is steadily increasing, especially among younger generations.

Language

While many languages are spoken in the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition, Xoli is by far the most common. Although there is no official language at the federal level, some laws, such as Xolbarian naturalization requirements, standardize Xoli, and most cities have declared it the official language. The Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition has recognized Xoli, English, New Groc in addition to Xolbor recognizing New Sica due to their high population of Sica people.

Military

Total Xolbarian military spending in 2040 was around €8 trillion, 13.8% of the federal budget.

The President serves as commander-in-chief of the Democratic People’s Republic of the Xolbarian Opposition military, which is headed by the Department of Defense. The military is divided into four branches; the Army, Air Force, the Navy, and the Space Force. All of these branches serve professionally, and have no other occupation. Conscription is illegal under the Xolbarian Opposition Constitution.
