Dekks for MoFA

Hello everybody! I am Dekks and I am running for the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs. I’ve been in the DSA since April 2018, and have been Minister of Domestic Affairs for the last two cabinet terms.

During my time in the DSA I have seen how this region has been an important member of the ILC and NSLeft, been an active participant in multi-regional affairs and has gotten noticed on the NationStates world stage. However, I have also seen our foreign relations stagnate and deteriorate due to and since the cabinet crisis.

I am running for MoFA to turn our Foreign Affairs around and help strengthen the region's diplomatic position.

The Basics

You cannot have a functional, let alone good ministry if you do not have the basics of the ministry secured. While it sometimes may seem unimportant, this is a crucial part to our success in running a ministry, that is why as MoFA I would:

- Make sure all ambassadorships are filled and have the ambassadors write reports every two weeks on any important issue in an embassy region.

- Have as much interest in our forum embassies as our regular embassies

- Join the discord servers of all our FA contacts including but not limited to embassies, forum embassies, and multi-regional organizations

- Rewriting our embassy requirements, as the current requirements simply do not represent the reality of how we manage our embassies anymore nor how I think we should manage our embassies.

Hello! Welcome to the Democratic Socialist Assembly!

In this Factbook, you will find all the requirements for establishing an Embassy with our region!

Population Requirements
In order to secure the sanctity of our region and our allies, we believe it opportune to set a minimum size on a region's population; as doing such not only helps bolster the protection of the mutual embassy, but also allows for a diverse region of opinion regarding leftist and left-oriented ideologies.

Region Population Requirements:

  • 100 minimum nations.

  • A majority of said (at least) 100 nations are active.* (regularly posting on the RMB/getting involved with regional activities)

  • Residency Requirements
In order for what the DSA believes as the preservation of ideologies that pertain to the founding principles (“Democracy, Equality, Solidarity, Freedom”), we encourage that regions seeking embassies to follow said tenets, and hold resident nations to the same accord.

    Region Residency Requirements:

  • Threshold placed on resident nations to achieve high levels of Civil Rights and Political Freedoms and maintain said levels. (i.e. 'Average' or higher for both Civil Rights and Political Freedoms is part of the resident requirements for the DSA).

  • It is advised to bar resident nations from holding certain WA Classifications that would fall below said threshold in previous bullet, and a maximum of 30% of nations in such Classifications (categories) is recommended.* (i.e. no Iron Fist Consumerists or Corporate Police States)

  • Ideology Requirements
The last point of embassy formation is the 'Ideological Requirements'. These play into the 'Residency Requirements' in the sense that a region seeking embassies, must also be considered to be 'leftist,' 'left-oriented,' 'socialist,' 'liberal,' or any combination of said identifiers. This also does matter for the requesting region's government. The DSA does strongly suggest and advise that the requesting region ensure the practice of "Democracy, Equality, Solidarity, and Freedom" in the governance of their region.

    Ideology Residency Requirements:

  • Requesting region have an elected government on a regularly scheduled interval.

  • Be considered left of the political spectrum as a region entirely. (at least 75% of resident nations; noted that it is preferred active nations would fall in the above 75% category)

  • Share the common belief of "Democracy, Equality, Solidarity, and Freedom".

  • *It is at the discretion of the DSA Cabinet of the time that will usually determine these measures of both activity and allowance of % barred categories allowed, ergo these bulleted points can flucuate from Cabinet to Cabinet.

    Thank you for reading!

    Rebuilding Relationships:

During my stay in the DSA foreign relationships have been built up and established, but relationships have also deteriorated and been cut off, as MoFA I will look into which regions we should rebuild our relations with.

    The Internationale:

TI is one of our oldest and most important embassies, yet during the last months the relationship between our regions has become more tense. The DSA discord moderators decided to ban a regional officer of The Internationale, another influential member of TI backed the regional officer against the decision of the moderators and the regional officer decided to criticise the DSA.

This is not a situation that can just go away and be put under the rug as otherwise it will lead to more problems, as MoFA I will reach out to The Internationale so that the communities and governments of both our regions can rebuild trust in one another and pursue a mutually beneficial partnership in the future. We should however not backtrack the decision of our moderating team and respect the discord moderators in their decisions without bringing NS politics into it.

    Pacifica:
Pacifica is a large left-leaning region created by Cormacopia Prime, one of the most influential people in NationStates, as such the DSA was happy to have Pacifica as one of their embassies. However due to the DSA cabinet crisis Pacifica decided to withdraw embassies with the DSA.

Since the DSA cabinet crisis much has happened in both regions, as such as MoFA I will seek contact with Pacific and look into the possibility of re-establishing embassies.

    The Revolutionary Communist Alliance:

TRCA was established as an embassy after the original Communist Alliance was raided and their founder turned the original region into a Dictatorship. While our embassy with them wasn’t anything special mostly there weren’t many problems, however the entirety of NSLeft retracted embassies with TRCA after their regional laws were seen to have permitted fascist nations into TRCA.

Yet since then TRCA have resolved their original problems and have shown nothing but respect and diplomacy towards the DSA so in my opinion it is atleast fair to look into re-establishing embassies.

    Establishing new relationships:

The only way in which the DSA can move forward on the world stage is if we establish new relationships and embassies. As MoFA I would consider any relationship with a respectable, sizeable and leftist region, period. If the region is not specifically leftist but is democratic, inclusive and anti-fascist forum embassies may be pursued.

    Multi-regional Organizations:

    NSLeft:

NSLeft is an important alliance to the DSA for our regional defence and leftist unity, however the organization has come under criticism by some in the DSA. As MoFA I will appoint a knowledgeable special ambassador to NSLeft and clear up misconceptions about the organization.

    ILC:

The Interregional Legislative Coalition is an organization which aims to bring regions together to work together on World Assembly affairs, in this capacity we have already produced a successful General Assembly proposal. Lately the ILC has suffered from inactivity and hasn’t taken up it’s full potential.

As MoFA I will work together with member regions to have the DSA and other member regions promote the ILC more vigorously, and work together in getting a new ILC chairman.

One of the ways I would try to increase ILC interest is to have the discord server linked on the DSA discord both manually and in a seperate channel, and to preferably work to having all other member regions doing the same.

    Confederation:

I believe that the DSA should take the initiative to create a regional confederation based upon either NSLeft or the ILC. This regional confederation would host icreative contests, have its own RP, allow regional representatives to learn from other regions and thus improve the functioning of member regions, have its own democracy and conducts its own Foreign Affairs in coördination with member regions. My personal preference as of now goes out to basing this new community of the ILC but I won't exclude the NSLeft as a possibility either.

    Conclusion:

In general for the next cabinet term i'd like to focus on 3 specific things:

    - Giving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a strong base, with a good time of ambassadors and having the basics of the job down

    - Improving our relations with our allies and seeking out new relations as far is responsible to the DSA and our allies

    - Having a renewed focus on sharing our communities and building up a new inter-regional community. (promoting people being on multiple discords and having puppet nations, interregional rp and events, regional confederation, etc.)

    Yours truly, Dekks
