WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY!

Welcome
Greetings, fellow Atlantican! We're so glad you've decided to join our region. The New Western Atlantic, or NWA for short, prides itself on its vibrant, diverse, friendly, and democratic community. Whether you're an experienced player looking for an exciting change or a newly-founded nation just trying to learn the basics, we're here to assist. Continue reading this guide to get started and access helpful information, and don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have on the Discord or RMB.

Communication
If you’re in the NWA, you’re going to want to talk to other Atlanticans! The best ways to do this are:
  • Discord server: the preferred method of regional communication. Good for casual chat, regional political debates, and important announcements alike. Click Linkhere to join.

  • Regional message board (RMB): the official NationStates chat of the NWA, and a good place for discussing NS-related (or unrelated) matters.

  • Telegram: you’re likely to get a few regionwide telegrams for announcements or recruiting, but no one is stopping you from sending telegrams of your own.

If you’re new to the region, make sure to introduce yourself on one (or both) of these sites! You can start meeting your regionmates in no time.

Government
The NWA is a constitutional monarchy, led by Monarch The united dark republic and administered by the Custodian Zachotopia. The Constitution establishes a legislative Senate; an cabinet of executive Ministries, led by the Prime Minister; and an appointed High Court. General elections happen every six months, in January and July, with midterm legislative elections in between.
  • Senate: The Senate is an elected institution, with seats allocated proportionally to party lists. Currently, the Senate comprises twelve seats, with members facing reelection in the general elections and the midterms. The Senate’s majority party or coalition chooses a Chancellor, while minority parties may choose a Shadow Chancellor. The Senate considers and votes on legislation, and the regional law registry lists all laws currently in effect.

  • Cabinet: The NWA’s executive branch is led by the Prime Minister, who has limited power to veto legislation passed by the Senate and to dismiss other ministers. Other ministries are established by the Monarch, and currently include Communications, Justice, and Diplomacy.

  • High Court: The High Court is the NWA’s supreme judicial body, responsible for judging criminal and constitutional matters.

Politics
Now for the exciting stuff: the NWA loves its politics. One of the biggest sources of regional dramaexcitement is the party system. Currently, the Monarch recognizes three political parties, which battle it out for ministry and Senate elections. On the right are the Constructivists (CON), the center the Liberal Democrats (LDP), and the left the Activists (ACT) (formerly the Progressives). Feel free to join a political party by reaching out to its respective leader.

Miscellaneous
  • World Factbook Entry (WFE): The regional WFE neatly describes the region to the world, and lists plenty of useful links and pinned dispatches (see the bottom of the text box labeled “World Factbook Entry”).

  • World Assembly (WA): The World Assembly is the world’s forum for international law and regional relations. Joining the World Assembly is highly encouraged, as it both confers you regional citizenship and increases regional influence. Alternatively, non-WA nations can receive citizenship by contacting Zachotopia. Feel free to endorse any nations in the region you like, as this also increases regional influence (which is already excitingly high).

  • Map: The NWA has a map! In an unofficial capacity, BillNyeLand (me) runs a regional map; it’s visible here, on the Map link above the WFE, or on the regional Discord. To claim a spot, message BillNyeLand describing your desired territory and map color. More map information will be available later.

That’s it for now! To summarize, to become a citizen, make sure you’ve introduced yourself on the RMB or LinkDiscord and joined the WA (or else messaged Zachotopia). Make sure to read the constitution and law registry, and don’t hesitate to get involved in regional politics by joining a political party, proposing a law or constitutional amendment, or running for office. And on behalf of the New Western Atlantic, enjoy your stay here.
