History of Comfed

Comfedian written civilization is generally agreed to have begun in the 500s CE, with the migrations of the Ruzzyal people in the early 500s due to changing flooding patterns in the Septarine River Basin. Comfed as a united Kingdom began after the conquest of the country by the Occanti from 772 to 798. Tensions between the Occanti and the Ruzzyal caused several conflicts over the centuries, but these gradually became fewer and fewer as the distinctions between the two people lessened and more and more Ruzzyal families entered the nobility. By the 1100s, this ethnic division ceased to exist had ceased to exist.

In 1328, following a civil war over succession in the Grand Duchy of Easternesse, the nobility formed the Lanzeras Concordat, which established the monarchy as an elective title to be held for life, with voting accorded to each noble on the basis of one person, one vote. However, over time, monarchs began to come consistently from the Denetclaw dynasty, which began to increase its own power at the expense of the nobility. In 1511, the death of King Alexander I lead to a decade-long civil war which resulted in power being passed to the Cerolean dynasty.

Over time, the growing power of the merchant class in Comfed and the impoverishment of the nobility led to inter-class resentment, while the archaic Comfedian economy that resulted caused financial difficulties for the Crown. When advisors to King Alexander III tried to impose reforms to fix the financial situation, it led to strong noble resistance, serving as the catalyst for the 1654 revolution. This led to the replacement of the Cerolean dynasty with the Greycloak dynasty and the establishment of the Estate Curiate to represent the mercantile elites.

During the Pathoalic Wars of the late 1700s to early 1800s, Comfed became a military power and significantly developed its arms industry. This rapid industrialization led to the rise of a strong working class, which began to agitate for better treatment and greater representation in government. This would form the base for the development of a strong leftist movement in Comfed, which would grow more and more influential in the country. During the mid to late nineteenth century, politicians influenced by liberal ideas formed the Unitarist movement. They moved to rationalize Comfedian government, most notably abolishing the system of common law and creating a uniform civil law across the country.

In 1497, King Alexander I created his grandson Henry the Archduke of Okatarin, a position generally reserved for the heir to the throne, over his first-born daughter, Alexandra. In that position, Henry used his grandfather's favour to sideline other members of his family, and his father grew older and less able to govern, he began to implement reforms to make the nobility subservient to the Crown. He constructed the Autumn Palace, and moved all business of the State Council - formerly a judicial institution holding power across the country - there, centralizing all power in one place. Henry also created many new nobles out the developing merchant class in the major cities, especially Okatarin, thus creating a group within the upper class owing their positions to him. When King Alexander died in 1511, he rapidly had the State Council proclaim his accession. However, his aunt Alexandra, who had fled the city when the King had first fallen deathly ill, appeared at the head of a noble uprising, known as Alexandra's Rebellion.
