2024 United Kingdoms General Election
General elections in the United Kingdoms were held on May 2nd, 2024. The incumbent Government was the Conservative Party, which won a 47 seat majority in the 2021 general election. Traditionally, general elections in the United Kingdoms are held every four to five years, but the impact of the coronavirus pandemic saw the 2015-20 cycle extended a year; to compensate for the unprecedented six year term, a bipartisan arrangement to have the 2021 term end in 2024 was made. Prime Minister Richard Arxon did not stand for re-election after 23 years in office. The election saw the Labour Party achieve an unexpected landslide and take power for the first time since 1996.The Conservative Party governed with little stability post-2015, with a thin majority of just 24. The response to the coronavirus pandemic as well as response to the internal conflict in Mount Khalatsa saw the Conservatives gain a larger majority. Since the election, potentially the most notable legislation passed was the passage of the non-binary gender opt-in in 2021, which made the United Kingdoms only the third country to do so.
Nevertheless, the Conservative Party was portrayed as old, tired, and possessing little in the way of new ideas. For the first time since the 1996 general election, the Labour Party consistently polled above the Conservative Party. Governor of Brototh Anton Rea assumed the leadership of the Conservative Party but was defeated by Amira Williamson, leader of the Labour Party, who became the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdoms. Competing third parties were the Liberal Party led by Rae Cooper and the Green Party led by Marcel Adams.
Elections for each of the Governorships of the United Kingdoms also took place. Governor of Brototh Anton Rea is not running for re-election to compete for the House of Commons; Governor of Aztopiand Dominic Greene is term limited; Governor of Albianis Dylan Macdonald is retiring; Governor of Chatsland Ben Stewart is retiring. This is the highest amount of Governors not running for re-election since the 1980 General Election; the only higher number was five in the 1915 General Election, which was the total at the time.
