Arguably yes. It gives way more respect to individual autonomy than any other alternative. The only real counter (aside from a moralist viewpoint) is a rationalist approach that claims every human could willfully want to die, leading to the end of humanity. However, this is seeded in Cartesian thoughts that should remain buried in the 19th Century, as we now take into account the emotions (empiricism) and balance that with rational links between perception that carry great ramifications that have advanced and worked alongside psychology.

We call this pragmatism more broadly, originating with American philosophers like William James and booming after WW2 because rationalism projects failed humanity. This is why pragmatism is the most dominant line of thought among the major philosophers of our time (the big peeps who international endorsement and funding).

From a pragmatic standpoint, with strong democratic influences: we should consider the shift in expression from liberty to individualism as an endorsement for autonomy advancing acts in Western culture. Hence why secularism, feminism (you know, we allow our society's women to drive) and some such other liberating beliefs are staples of Western society. If we are to endorse a libertarian framework of society forever progressing (denying the older dominant Hegelian dialectics - which is explored in modern media such as the Fallout games if you're interested in its implications [I recommend New Vegas]), then it is a necessary truth to believe that euthanasia will be legal in the future (as we are denying a divine general Providence that acts as an 'invisible hand'. This idea of a world order being established has already been proven faulty in economics and is almost proven faulty in the minds of the majority across the world, just give it time).

I guess the LEO test is right to label me as an ideologue egalitarian...
