Yes indeed external links will always appear sketchy and you should always be weary of them.
However regarding our forums they are absolutely safe, our forums are hosted by Proboards, which hosts many other forums for regions across Nationstates. Your data will be secured like any other major website is, and to gain full access to it you just need to answer simple questions revolving your Nationstates activity, and some others that are not an issue regarding your privacy. Just make sure you don’t have a VPN on so that the admins can confirm that you’re safe to be granted access to them. The only problem with them is the ads that pop up, which are similar to the ads I see on Nationstates anyways. I recommend installing an adblocker for these.
I highly recommend you join if you want to participate in the LKE as it’s the easiest way to get involved with the region, in particular we are looking for people to register for the Civil Service, which in short is a way for you to contribute your talent directly to the government, whether it be writing, arranging events, being an envoy for other regions, and more. Even the tiniest bit that you can contribute means a lot.
I see your mostly interested in building your own nation, which is great too, I personally spent more time in my early days on Nationstates building my own nation, so you’re not obligated to join and you can simply reside your nation here as others do. For those who want to do more than answer issues, the best way to get involved further in our regional government is to register on our off-site forum and apply for citizenship (membership of the Electoral College). Below are the following steps to do that:

Aside from answering issues, participating in our regional forums and chatting with the other Electors of the LKE in our RMB, another thing you might want to consider is joining the World Assembly. By joining the WA, you can submit your own resolutions, vote, and endorse other nations. By becoming a member of the World Assembly, you also help the LKE grow its influence in the world stage. WA nations endorsing our World Assembly Delegate New Zora increase the number of our region's votes in the body.
You need to a valid email. Go to your nation's settings and check if you provided one.
Go to the World Assembly page and click on "Apply to Join" at the top.
A confirmation email from NationStates will then be sent to the address you provided. Log in and look for the message from NationStates. Click the link and you should be directed back to the game.
Note, the rules allow you to only have one nation in the World Assembly. While you can create as much nations as you want (you can even move in more than one nation to the LKE), the game prohibits you from having multiple nations joining the WA.
Please do not hesitate to send a telegram to our regional officers or post on the Regional Message Board (RMB), or message a Minister on the forums. We are grateful that you decided to make the LKE the home of your nation on NationStates. We would welcome any suggestions on how we can improve our region.
