running back the pacifism for one day to nuke everyone to another century

Student Loan Debt wrote:From the Office of the Minister of Domestic Affairs

Hello there pacifists and those that love nuclear destructive capabilities.

In a little over a week, NationStates will once again plunge into the chaos of Mutually Assured Destruction as N-Day 10 starts on February 24th (or 25th depending on your time zone) and lasts 24 hours. As we approach that, the DSA will be joining with our allies once again .

For those unfamiliar, our interregional alliance of InterLeft is a member of the Gameplay organization known as the Jellyfish Elite Fighting Force (JEFF), a faction that secured an impressive 4th place on the leaderboard during the last N-Day.

We saw the great participation last time round, with just over 1000 nations join the faction (including many puppets), and now we're at it again and seeking help from anyone who loves to destroy societies through the push of a button.

If you're available this N-Day, JEFF will be operating primarily through Discord and we have our own JEFF Discord server. If you can, join the server and next week, once the faction link is available, it will be shared with everyone. If you can't join the server, JEFF will be providing updates on ther RMB as well.

Server: https://discord.gg/nnv5Bt5jQF

Region: region=jellyfish_elite_fighting_force

If you have any questions, you can message one of the main organizers of the faction, New United Common-lands.

In Soli-tastrophe,

Number 5, N-day.

The last thing you want to occur in Nationstates, if you enjoy being passive, is an all-out nuclear warfare.

FEBRUARY 2024 CHANCELLOR ELECTIONS
Yep, it's that time again... Chancellor election time! While InterLeft has been relatively inactive lately (save for the Civ games - pretty big success - and a small amount of RP activity), that does not absolve us of our responsibilities to the democratic process. The elections will entail the citizenry of all InterLeft regions electing this alliance a new leader for the next three months or so. Any citizen of any member region may take part in (both run in and vote in) these elections. If you want to sign up, please telegram Onionist Randosia. It is recommended you only run if you know how InterLeft works, but as I said before, anyone may give it a try. Whoever wins this election will serve the first term in which we actually have a Charter (yes ik i said that last time... but really, this time).
You have until the 19th of February to sign up by telegramming or DMing me (Onionist Randosia).
May the best candidate win!

(This was posted on Discord four or five days ago, and I was planning to post it on NS then as well, but I forgot. While there's only two days left to sign up, I thought I may as well post it on the region RMBs as well.)

Dangit I got rid of state-mandated atheism; just because I want to educate not beat the religion out of people doesn't mean I want religion to be allowed either! It's dogmatic and threatens the justness of a democratic socialist society

The vast majority of Alyraa is atheist, which was a complete accident. I’m actually very religious irl so every time I accidentally lower religious freedom or something I feel bad-

I think this keeps happening because I choose the science oriented options, because yeah I do want Alyraa to be a country of scientists

Hot take: religion is not inherently bad enough to require its criminalization, it just shouldn't be able to enter the political sphere in a way that forces itself upon others, which also extends to the other point of this triangle with state-supported anti-theism

Religion has absolutely no place in politics.

Kanoshu is meant to a deeply spiritual nation in its lore, but its NS stats have always had a very low religiousness score as like Alyraa I tend to chose the 'pro-secularism/ science' options in issues as the 'pro-religious' option is nearly always presented as whacky fundamentalist extremism which is a shame.

In Kanoshu the national religion of Suruitkuism is closely intertwined into both the popular culture and prevailing socialist ideology, so whilst officially Kanoshu is a secular nation with a separation of temple and state, the Suruit teachings remain extremely influential in both government and popular life.

Suruit influence is also extremely commonplace in the sciences. In the time of the Kanoshuan Empire the role of a temple and centre of education were one and the same, to the point that the words for priest and scientist in Kano is a homonym. Chajnusalam or 'One who seeks'. Though the role of 'temple' and 'school' were formally separated by the reforms of the Second Republic, the influence is still felt today - one example being that Kanoshuan theoretical physics will attempt to account for the existence of spirits in their theories of the universe and an altered version of String Theory adapted to Suruit teachings being taught across the nation's universities.

In a similar boat to Kanoshu, the Tarakáns are a deeply spiritual people whose religious ideology directly guides them towards their community focused, socialist ideals. The Scaled Gods teach cooperation, compassion, charity, and being strong enough to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

This is reflected in and amplified by their state policy, the largest example of which being the military, which is also a public works organization that feeds the hungry, treats the sick, builds houses and infrastructure, fights fires, and manages domestic policing and crisis services, as well as managing temples.

They make no claims about being a secular nation, and members worshipping the traditional Tarakían gods are present in their political leadership at many levels. However, the path of the Scaled Gods is always a choice for citizens or politicians, to purposefully withhold from another that you have the capacity and ability to help, or to bar them from equal status with your own, and to then justify your actions to yourself by presuming the will of the gods is a high blasphemy and you will answer for it eventually, in life or in death.

NS issue writing seems to overall have a very strange, skewed worldview, and these weird religious scorings are a part of that. For some reason, it is impossible to have a scientific country with nearly any protections for religions, or vice versa, which is very unlike the real world. You can have strong science while also not restricting personal freedoms, but seemingly not so here.

Yeah the issues don’t feel nuanced at all.

Gallifrax

NS issues are like the monkey's paw. everything is taken literally and a step too far.

NS issues are satirical, but many are also very, very american-centric imo

Which would be weird since Maxwell Berry is Australian, but I guess most Issue-writers are Americans

I would be very happy if there was a relatable question

"Or will a new contender rise to take it all on the 10th rerun of this iconic NS event?"

Soon
