Same here, weak economy, and you are right, its because you chose socialist economy when you made your nation, thats how this game works. But dont worry, its easy, just answer issues and choose to grow your economy.
If you choose to preserve environment, it will grow slower, because you will cut trees less, clear forests for shoping malls, mine sand from oceans to make concrete etc. If you cancel nature protection laws by answering issues, your economy will grow rapidly, but you will end up with bad weather, climate and nature.

I will choose to to preserve nature, so my economy will go slower. It also depends on luck you get in issues, some issues will help. some will not, you get only 5 issues daily. To get new you must answer them first, or reject. Depends on which issues you get, your economy will reach the level you want in few days, and if unlucky, in few months.

Edit: to be clear im not new, just this nation is new, we just have same problem, thats what i meant.

My economy is doing very well just the other stuff are doing horrible do I really need to have civil rights and political freedom? And if so how do I get that up.

Your economy can do well even if it is in the red, in this game, the color green indicates the size of the economy in numbers(GDP), its capitalist parameter.

Civil rights and political freedom in red also doesnt change much, since 'dictatorship of the prolerariat' also means in this game 'no multiparty elections' and automatically puts you in the red, 'unfree'.

By now, i learned how to grow economy from red to green while the economy is non-market socialist(just keep subsidizing the economy, basically thats it), but i still didnt figure it out how to have one-party system(DOTP) and being in green.
