Sick Vermonter Saddled With Extra Work While Big Boss Retires to Tropical Paradise
Chief Executive Markanite, in a stunning abuse of power, has taken it upon himself to force Lenlyvit to take up his entire portfolio as Chief Executive. Lenlyvit’s additional responsibilities come just as he begins recovering from a severe cold while trapped in the frozen wilderness of Vermont. In the meantime, Markanite will be retiring to the balmy frontier A Taco Paradise, removing Lenlyvit from the coveted post and evicting him from the Governor’s Mansion there.
Markanite has attempted to justify this astounding act of open corruption by citing the Constitution of 10,000 Islands, which reads “The Chief Executive authority of 10000 Islands shall be vested in the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive shall hold Office for life, and shall be responsible for the conferral of the Chief Executive’s authority to a successor of the Chief Executive’s sole choosing.” Markanite has creatively interpreted this passage to mean that he, as Chief Executive, has the power to name his successor, and that his successor will take the Chief Executive post as Markanite steps down..
Taco Island lawyers we spoke to were inclined to disagree. One, under the condition of anonymity said, “I’ll say anything you want me to if you give me enough Tacos. So, no, Markanite clearly doesn’t have the authority to do . . . whatever you just said. Now I’ll take three soft tacos, one beef, one veggie, and one fish, with salsa and sour cream.” Some people have said that Lenlyvit has been pressured by Markanite’s supporters through encouragement, high-five emojis, well-wishing, and generally being solicitous and helpful. Are these offers genuine? Or a clear and unconscionable act of manipulation on the part of Markanite’s duplicitous and hypocritical followers? Only time will tell.
In all seriousness, Markanite has stepped down from his role as Chief Executive. His Successor, Lenlyvit, will take his place while Markanite takes the lead at A Taco Paradise. Markanite’s full statement is available on the 10,000 Islands Proboards forum here. Please join me in thanking Markanite for his long service to the Islands and in welcoming our new Chief Executive Lenlyvit.
In the wake of Markanite’s departure to A Taco Paradise and Lenlyvit’s succession there are now three Senate seats up for election this month, as well as the Delegacy. Astrobolt, AxeCapital, and Keswickholt have all announced their intention to defend their positions, However, there is a race for the empty New Republica South seat between Wazeww and The World Defense Organization. Both are newcomers to the political scene at XKI and both appear to have grand plans to revitalize debate culture in the Islands. Read more about it in The Breaking Wave - Election Edition!

March 16, 2024
Voting continues with decent turnout in favor of the incumbents for Lyonnesse East, Himes West, and Delegate. The race for Senator of New Republica South is still going on. The World Defense Organization has a commanding lead over Wazeww, but there are still several days left to cast a vote and the outcome remains in doubt. Exit polling as revealed that The Breaking Wave staff have no idea how to conduct exit polls and the results were thrown out and mulched. I guess we won't be able to call it until Tuesday, when the voting booth closes!
If you haven't yet, cast your vote today!
March 12, 2024
The Declaration period has closed and the voting booths have opened! Head over to your nearest voting location to vote for Delegate and Senators for Himes West (HW), Lyonnesse East (LE), and New Republica South (NRS)! While Astrobolt, AxeCapital and Keswickholt are all running unopposed, there is a currently a close race for the NRS seat between Wazeww and The World Defense Organization. Don't forget to read their campaign speeches (linked below) and consider carefully before you vote!
The voting will last for a week, after which the victors will be declared.
March 9, 2024
This March will see the largest and most important election in the (admittedly brief) history of The Breaking Wave. Astrobolt is finishing a term as Delegate and is up for reelection. Lenlyvit's exit of the New Republica South to take on the Chief Executive role has left a vacancy in the Council of Nine, so a special election has been called for NRS. This in addition to the two regularly scheduled elections for Himes West and Lyonnesse East.
Senior Senator Keswickholt and AxeCapital, of the House of the Sword, have both announced their intention to defend their seats as Senators of Lyonnesse East and Himes West, respectively. Himes West is responsible for running the XKI roleplay regions, while Lyonnesse East manages the XKI Houses and House Cup recruiting competitions. At the moment they are both running unopposed.
The Senator for New Republica South is responsible for running debates and the Delegate Straw Poll, which establishes baseline support for potential bids for the Delegacy. Currently two nations have declared their candidacy for the position: Wazeww, of House of the Sword, and The World Defense Organization, of House of the Defenders. Winning the seat would be the first foray into Council politics for either of them. Their campaign speeches are posted here:
The World Defense Organization
wazeww
Astrobolt, our current Delegate, has announced that he will defend his seat as Delegate. Valentian Elysium, our Minister of Education, has volunteered to run the Delegate Straw Poll this month. The results are still pending and should show other eligible nations how much support they would have if they decided to challenge Astrobolt.
Elections start on the 12th, so if you're interested in running for office, declare your

Cultural Officer Aquachromia, hired just last month, has been hard at work hosting several events for Islanders. This month they are putting on a month-long Music March Madness event featuring games, music-themed movies, and a music submission contest with generous Taco rewards provided through the Ministry of Culture. We had a chance to “sit down” with Aquachromia on Discord to ask a few questions. The following transcript has been edited for clarity and to avoid shaming our keyboarding instructors:
Pantso: Hey, I'm starting to work on the next issue of the Wave and I'm planning on doing a bit about the recent cultural events and the Music March Madness event. Do you mind answering a few questions for the article?
Acquachromia: Sure!
Pantso: Great! What inspired you to take on the role of cultural officer?
Acquachromia: I noticed how my friend Venvee Republic had his own job in the 10,000 Islands, so I wanted to involve myself too and become active in the community!
Pantso: Are you friends outside NationStates? Did the two of you join together, or did one of you recruit the other?
Acquachromia: We're friends outside Nation States, I introduced Venvee to NS about 2 or 3 years ago I believe.
Pantso: And then they got a job, and you got jealous about all their great Tacos, and you decided to get one too 🙂
Acquachromia: lol, nah just wanted to be involved
Pantso: So far you've hosted a movie night where we saw Migration, and a flag contest, and now we're entering the Music March Madness where there will be an event every weekend. What other kinds of events are you considering?
Acquachromia: We'll have a gaming night, and a photo contest, not sure what else after March!
Pantso: What, if any, would you say is your overall goal or mission as Cultural Officer? (I will double check the actual title; I can never remember) (Editor’s Note: It is Cultural Officer; the Cultural Office Assistant role was retired)
Acquachromia: I think there's assistant in that title
I think my goal is to make the community of 10,000 Islands more connected, and allow XKI to become an even more friendly and welcoming place!
Pantso: That sounds great! Seems like you're off to a great start, with an event planned every weekend for six weeks running so far. You've set quite a pace for yourself.
Is there anything else you'd like to say for the article? It will be sent out to Islanders, Paradisers, and our friends and allies in other regions.
Acquachromia: If there's anything you can learn from me it's get involved! You never know what you could find if you involve yourself in your regions, or really anything in life!
Nations interested in participating in Music March Madness should check out this dispatch:

The War on Terror continues, with the anti-terrorist factions recruiting more nations into the fight and gradually pushing back on the terrorist organizations. Al-Caeda in particular has lost a great deal of territory to Macrasetia’s Anti-Terrorist Coalition of Defense while ACOD’s newer members claim the recaptured land for themselves.
In the meantime, New Sahulland, Chair Co, South Adria, and Pantso have been working to protect the monarchy in New Sahulland after an unsuccessful assassination attempt.
Nations in 10000 Islands or A Taco Paradise interested in joining the conflict should check out these dispatches about the Green Sky Terror event and RP on A Taco Archipelago. Hope to see you there!
Two ATA Superpowers of Terra (Earth), Krystalveil and Margaux began an unexpected war with each other that would prove to be a system-wide catalyst for further chaos. As millions of casualties accumulate, Krystalveil's Death Star Superweapon Aion is activated near the Sun, and starts casting a green light onto the Solar System, throwing the system under a green light cast everywhere.
Meanwhile, a catastrophic event engineered by the collaboration of various terrorist groups in Terra (Earth): Al-Caeda, Kalatova, and Committee for Charity and Solidarity, led to the creation of a highly unstable dimensional portal at the edge of the solar system. The portal's creation was a result of the terrorists' cunning manipulation of stolen advanced technology and arcane artifacts stolen from various nations. This portal possessed a sinister attraction, absorbing >50% of the populations of nations across Terra and the rest of their colonies scattered throughout the Solar System into another dimension. When the portal finally closed, these terrorist groups had taken advantage to occupy many devastated lands across Terra and the Solar System claiming over 70% of the lands across Terra.
In the aftermath, three Counter Terrorist Factions were formed to combat these vile organizations and retake the lands from the perpetrators. However, without the assistance of the two superpowers (Margaux and Krystlveil) and the loss of countless nations, these Counter Terrorist Factions will need to build up their strength by recruiting new nations as members to combat the terrorists and retake all the land on Terra and the Solar System. Under the cover of a green sky, the War on Terror rages with the Counter Terrorist Factions on a mission to secure the lands back from terrorist threats. Join the Fight!
1. Recruit: Due to their vast numbers it is estimated that each Faction needs at least 10 members, and all three factions together need at least 50 members to win the War Against Terror.
2. Fight: Factions may choose to work together or even against each other, abiding by their Factions Leader's instructions.
3. Claim Lands: Faction Leaders will coordinate with their members on recruiting new members, attacking terrorist targets, and distributing new lands captured to their members.
4. Use Advanced Technology: All terrorist Groups have access to Level 6 Scientific Advancement. Factions have SA sharing with their own members

A Taco Archipelego
While XKI hosts many player-managed roleplays across our 3 platforms, we have a flagship roleplay: A Taco Archipelago. ATA is a science-fiction themed roleplay, where people come together for future tech, fast-paced role-play, here you can colonize other solar systems, fight in space battles and participate in character-driven roleplay. With hundreds of monthly active users, you will always have an avenue to let your imagination run free on the A Taco Archipelago Regional Message Board. There is also an ATA channel on our XKI discord here where participants can have faster-paced roleplays or roleplay with smaller groups. Additionally there is also a ATA sub-board in our XKI forum (here). Participants on this platform can have more specific and focused roleplays.
Beginner's Guide
So you have decided to join? Great! Now... Where do you start? First and foremost would be to read the rules in this dispatch, if you want to do detailed worldbuilding of your nation you can take advantage of our RP Resource Guide. Now you have read the rules and perhaps written a little bit about your nation, now what? Well, time to participate in the role-play! There are many going on most of the time, to join one try asking the people online on ATA or scrolling up a little bit. Maybe there aren't any role plays happening you are interested in, then why not create your own. Some ideas could be inviting some world leaders to your nation for a meeting, or opening a new project, however, if you have any ideas put them out there, and most importantly, have fun.
ATA RMB Posting Rules
The following is a list of the rules that are to be followed when posting on the Regional Message Board of A Taco Archipelago RMB:
Posts made on the RMB should remain within the boundaries of PG-13. Additionally, posts must not include profane language, or direct attacks at any person. When criticizing someone IC, please do not turn it into malicious insults. Adherence to the regular roleplay rules, such as the avoidance of godmodding, flaming, or griefing, is expected.
The NationStates rules, and general XKI RMB rules are to be followed when posting on the board at all times.
The use of the board should be strictly kept to roleplay, or the discussion thereof. All posts on should be IC. Some OOC posts (clarifying an IC situation) will be allowed, but should be kept at a minimum. Any other topics should be discussed on the 10000 Islands regional message board, regional Discord server, or regional forum.
When wanting to engage in a RP that starts in another player's nation, you should get their permission. Anything inside someone's own nation - their culture, security, laws etc, they have the right to decide. A nation can void something that happens inside their own nation. RPs of wars and third-party events relating to another nation do not require their permission to be started.

Complaints, disputes, or suggestions must be polite and should be made on non-IC channels. They can be addressed to any RP Commissioner or the Himes West Senator on any non-IC channels on Discord, NS telegram, or forums. The Himes West Senator and RP Commissioners will discuss complaints and aim to resolve them fairly.

This new segment of The Breaking Wave will feature the beloved pets of the 10000 Islands and A Taco Paradise. This month features [nation]Newlandiquia[/region]’s Pinscher “Doguinho”, or “Dogue” for short. Dogue enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, lifting his rear up to the sun, and has an April Fool’s birthday. The five-year old pupper was picked up from a farm and, while a photo was unavailable, we can’t help but imagine an adorable Pinscher frolicking in a sunny field with his best girlfriend.
