Old Abardis

The Imperial Federation of Abardis, as we know it today, was once a vast, yet divided land consisting of 37 Kingdoms and Principalities scattered across the Greater Abardi Peninsula that were constantly at war with each other. These lands were governed by feudal lords of different houses that traced their lineage back to common ancestry of over a thousand years, beginning with the first King of Old Abardis, Demos I.

Over many generations, however, the Kingdom was successively divided into many smaller ones due to the traditional practice of coparcenary inheritance, where the kingdom, upon the death of its king, was divided equally among all his male heirs.

Gradually, all traces of Old Abardis faded, and the once united lands were divided into smaller, and much weaker, kingdoms. Twenty-three major wars were fought across the peninsula over a period of five hundred years that greatly impacted the cultural, economic and political landscape of Abardis as a whole.
However, more than anyone else, it was the people who suffered.

The people of these lands shared the same blood, religion, language, culture and traditions and yet were divided by the borders between them. They were forced into killing their brethren at the whim of their lords.
Gradually, the common cultural identity faded away, and the glory of Old Abardis, whose prosperity and political and military might was greater than any other nation of its time, was lost in the shadows.
