Harlow Stone

The first president of Mestov, Harlow Stone has allowed for the rapid growth and prosperity of Mestov. He has oversaw many years in office, and has recently decided to step down. From the birth of the nation of a population of 5 million, he led a country of 1.896 billion. Due to his old age, he has decided to step down finally, and embrace retirement.
Under Stone's legislation, there have been many experiments with the government, with a brief stint of being a tyrant. He has led Mestov through several wars, and has remained a constant in many Mestovian citizens' lives. His primary goals as president were to boost the economy and wellbeing of the citizens. Under his legislation he has made healthcare free, higher level education free, loosed immigration laws, and fought for worker's rights. Unfortunately under his rule, unemployment has been at an all time high, with over half of the population without a job. In most issues, Stone would often seek the best way out through diplomacy, and has contributed greatly to foreign relations, as well as greatly preserving the environment. He has allowed for the transition to nuclear energy, as well as AI citizenship. Under his legislation, the safety of Mestov has skyrocketed, with a ban on guns and a boost to education and welfare. The military has suffered heavily in terms of funding and lacks any real offensive capabilities. Despite his long rule and overdue retirement, many have come to pay their respects to the former President who stepped down, warning against the dangers of overreliance on other countries, and the exploitation of those who could rise up.
Harlow Stone stepped into office whe he was a young man who had bright ideas, and it was by his own volition to not run again. He said in his passing speech, "In the years I have spent in office, I have done my best to implement my ideas to the benefit of the people. Yet I have grown old and out of date, now is the time for new people to be in charge, to bring fresh new ideas to revitalize the country and bring it to greater heights."
