Di Royalis Guardesia ( The Royal Guard/ The Life Guard) - A Historical Overview (WORK IN PROGRESS)

The Royalis Guardesia are the elite formation of the Empire's Army made to protect Emperor Nightmarius von Karol Alexius Bellum and the 8 main branches of the royal family. Formed 835 years ago, right after the creation of the kingdom of Nightmaria. The First King Vinarius the Wise had chosen 18 of his most loyal and veteran men to act as his life guards, they were the best troops the relatively small kingdom had and they were given the best of equipment and training possible to ensure the Majesty's protection.

Notable Battles and Notable Campaigns that the Royal Guard were apart of:

The Venaria Campaign (1193): The Campaign was the first Major Campaign Launched by the Kingdom of Nightmaria. In all intents and purposes the Campaign should have been impossible to launch due to the kingdom's population being 14,000 at the time. However since it was able to recruit 8,000 of its citizens as soldierly and hired 2,000 mercenaries. The campaign had the Kingdom of Nightmaria taking over countless Fiefdoms, Duchy's and Kingdoms.

During the Battle of Sancti Covex the Royal Guard and 200 other soldiers held the line against a combined force of 3,400. Saving the First King Vinarius the Wise from becoming captured. Records state that when the King was minutes away from being captured, 8 of the surviving Royal Guards fell into such a frenzy that they butchered through dozens of enemy rank and file to save their King. The battle become a decisive victory for the Kingdom of Nightmaria as they took 90 casualties while inflicting 450 casualties on the enemy and causing the enemy to give up the important Sacti Covex passage way.

As the Enemy Commander of the Battle Jances Kolia Varzs would later state in his journal "During the moment those things clad in dark blue fought more closely to demons in flesh than man. They reveled in the bloodshed. At the end of their frenzy you could only make red across their entire armor, not even a sign of humanity layed behind those pitch black eyes of theirs."

The Terminus Campaign (1248): The Campaign was launched by the 4th King, Valerius the Butcher. Launched as a first strike against the growing Karolean Federation and the campaign would be the reasons as to why King Valerius would gain the title of 'The Butcher" and would start the idea of using the Royal Guards as elite shock troops when on the battlefield instead of purely just defending the King.

During the Battle of Terras the Royal Guard contingent of 120 would end up being critical in the battle as the Imperial force of 8,400 would face of a force of 16,900. The full Royal Guard contingent supported by calvary and 1,000 infantry lead personally by King Valerius would end up breaking the enemy right flank after ferocious fighting as the King purposely placed himself in danger causing the Royal Guard to go into an even greater frenzy causing a butchery to occur on the enemy line. During the battle as King Valerius fought against General Davijek Kracoli on horseback multiple statements reported that 4 Royal Guardsmen would tackle the noble off of their mount before butchering him. This all occurred as the Royal Guard fought to keep the King safe. The battle was a pyrrhic victory for the Kingdom of Nightmaria, with both sides suffering egregious casualties.
