The Federal Union of Oceania was a multinational federation in West Abbaddon that ruled over most of northwest Abbaddon from 2006-2026. The state was formed to replace the transitional authority formed after the fall of Nicholas Vinski's autocratic regime of the Oceanic Republic. The Oceanic Interim Republic was merged with the states of Sealand, Red Villa, Stonehollow, Gold Hollow, and Silverstone to finalize the formation of the Federal Union of Oceania. In the last year of President Johnson's presidency, the Union collapsed into a second civil war triggered by the Infestation Crisis, culminating in the majority of the country collapsing under the control of the Anarchian Union of Oceania; though a resistance continues that is backed by Draganisia. Rump factions of the Federal Union remain invested in the Trutinian War.

Following the May 28 Coup in 1989 by Nicholas Vinski, the Oceanic Civil War and the Great Northern War began as resistance movements formed against the autocratic regime of Vinski. The League of a Free Oceania (LFO) sought support from the international community, culminating in the formation of an international coalition led by Draganisia to oust Vinski from power.

The Oceanic Coalition led by Draganisia proceeded to invade Oceania on 3 November 1989, successfully securing the majority of the Oceanic Mainland and forcing Vinski to flee to the Oceanic Isles. This sparked the short but major Oceanic War of Independence in which Vinski united many militant factions and successfully kicked out most of the coalition from the Oceanic Mainland. The remains of the coalition formed the Republic of Sealand from the eastern section of the Oceanic Mainland. Many resistance groups took their operations to Sealand.

Vinski's Oceanic Republic would continue to clash against the Republic of Sealand. Meanwhile, the Draganisian-led international coalition would continue to support the Republic of Sealand and Oceanic resistance groups. Finally, in 1997 the coalition would capture Vinski's capital in Imperi Oceania, forcing Vinski to flee north to the Kreopudades.

In 1998, Vinski would be killed by a Draganisian raid on his safe house in the Kreopudades. This would lead to the official end of the Great Northern War and the formation of the Oceanic Interim Republic. The Interim Republic would hold elections in which General Tatar Savia was elected a full-term as President. However, resistance would continue from former Vinski-aligned militias against the international-backed transitional authority, culminating in the Oceanic Wars; still continuing the civil war.

In 2002, Tatar no longer ran another term, and instead, King Harry Ormstein of Hard Coast was elected President for a full term. Negotiations began during this period to merge the Interim Republic with Sealand and the Stonehollowian states, but these were delayed due to increased terrorist attacks by former Vinski-aligned militias across St Abbaddon, which forced further international intervention into Oceania. Eventually, on 10 May 2006, Sealand and the Interim Republic were merged along with their federal subjects and the seceded states of Red Villa, Stonehollow, Gold Hollow, and Silverstone; forming the Federal Union of Oceania. On May 11, the fourteen-year-old Willow Vinski was elected president for a full term. Willow Vinski, having won a second term in 2010, signed the Oceanic Accords on 7 December 2012 to officially end the Oceanic Wars and the Oceanic Civil War.

In 2026, in the last year of President Ethan Johnson's second term, Oceania fell into civil war from the worldwide Infestation Crisis and also a revolution led by General Commander Leuthen Johnson Simmons. This culminated in the beginning of the Second Oceanic Civil War and the Anarchian Union successfully gaining control over most of Oceania. President Johnson was presumably assassinated by an Anarchian agent in the Marble House in Oceania, D.C.

The Federal Union produced many significant social and technological achievements and innovations regarding military power, economy, and society. It boasted the world's second-largest economy and the second-largest standing military in the world. It was regarded as a nuclear state alongside Draganisia and Trutinia and Niktobr. It succeeded the Oceanic Republic as a founding permanent member of the League of St Abbaddon (LSA) as well as a member of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Abbaddon (OSCA) and the Abbaddonian Federation of Trade Unions (AFTU).

Before its collapse, Oceania kept its status as a world superpower, alongside Draganisia, after its creation in 2006. It exercised large control over northwest Abbaddon and stretched from the islands of Enga to the north to the Silverstonian plains to the south. Oceania cooperated much with Draganisia in security, developing countries, funding of scientific research, and advancing in space technology and weaponry.

Etymology

The first known use of the Abbaddonian word "Oshanah" dates back to 1011 when Abbaddonian voyagers wrote about their travels to the Western Continents in a land where the people referred to themselves as "people of the sea". In these writings, the first uses of the word "Oshanah" were dropped.

Historians widely believe that the origins of the word "Oshanah" are related to the Tangian word "Oshnah'e". While there is no direct evidence to tie the two words together, genetic studies have proven that the Tangian people of the Tang Islands and the Oceanic peoples of Oceania are closely interrelated in genetic background. So its widely agreed that Tangian migrations of fishermen, pirates, and settlers to the landmasses of Oceania likely used the word "Oshanah" to refer to their new home in the peninsula. And eventually, this became the word to refer to their people the Oceanics.
