⚜ The Eastern Capital ⚜
Since the fall of the Ottomans in their failed internal politics and the rise of the Greeks, the French have always kept an eye on the Eastern Balkans. As possibly the true successor of the Roman Empire, France saw the states of the Mediterranean from the Hellhole of Barcelona to the Wonders of Alexandria to the Imperial City of Constantinople as their domain. It was why when the Neo-Byzantines rose up in an attempt to reestablish the Greeks as a nation, France tried its best to influence the state. However, history would turn to the worst when the Greeks refused to even associate with the Bonapart Empire, seeing themselves as the true power of the east. The early East Roman War fought in the wake of Byzantine Power and then the lengthy Franco-Albanian War, with the Successors of the Byzantines: The Greek Republic, would almost affirm that the Greeks were indeed rivals to Paris. And as the 19th century started to come full circle, it would seem that the Greeks truly bested the French.

⚜ The Red Scare ⚜
So far communism, or socialism in a whole hasn’t been a top priority of the French since its rise in Brussels from Charles Marx. Largescale revolutions where all put down in the late 40s. And while yes, some pockets of the idea have survived, including the most obvious Republic of Catalonia calling itself socialist, it had never truly been a threat to western Europe.

However, as the century continues, news of Red groups trying to influence their governments only grew. And now, from Frances point of view the worst has come. The Greek Republic, already experimenting with liberal ideas that the French haven’t reached, managed to call a snap election after a constitutional crisis left their incumbent Prime Minister virtually unable to rule. This election would not only see the election of a Revolutionary Communist to lead Greece, but also the full control of the Reds in the Greek Government. For Greece it was all part of the political process, these people being democratically elected to serve the state. For France however, the very fact that a ideology as potent as Communism, or even socialism as a whole, has managed to gain control of a country that could in theory challenge French might is a major concern and threat to the Empire and Europe as a whole.

With all of that said, it would seam that War with the Greek State was uniterable, it was only a matter of time before some incident would happen to where the two power clicked.

That time would come very fast, when the new Socialist government wanted to nationalize and reform its economy for the years ahead. This would include some very unpopular policies when it came to the Greek canal in the levant. This would be the last and final straw for Napoleon II, who has been rather very open on his anger to the Greek. And so, with a single pen stroke, a military expedition was to be sent to the canal to secure it for French Interests.

Within a week however, the small French Force would be calling for aid against the overwhelming Greek Garrison. And thus, war had begun
