The Free Republic of Amabilis is a colossal, orderly nation, ruled by Maybelle with an iron fist, and renowned for its avowedly heterosexual populace, ban on automobiles, and prohibition of alcohol. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 8.882 billion Maybellites are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Industry, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Maybellegrad. The average income tax rate is 78.3%.

The frighteningly efficient Amabilisian economy, worth a remarkable 1,811 trillion lebiams a year, is quite specialized and mostly comprised of black market activity, especially in Woodchip Exports, Uranium Mining, Furniture Restoration, and Book Publishing. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an amazing 203,927 lebiams, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.6 times as much as the poorest.

Office thieves tell their employers kleptomania is a pregnancy symptom, surgeons walk out of theatres more often than prima donna actors, Amabilisian political exiles populate the near abroad, and giggling teens are asked to put their mouths on rubber dolls. Crime is a major problem. Amabilis's national animal is the eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to toxic air pollution, and its national religion is Nashrelig.

Amabilis is ranked 274,531st in the world and 4,901st in The East Pacific for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -9.97 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
