The hard-nosed, cynical, devout population of 172 million Kyrislandians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized morass — juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Administration, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 77.8%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The Kyrislandian economy, worth 8.39 trillion Kyrians a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is dominated by the Book Publishing industry, with significant contributions from Door-to-door Insurance Sales, Cheese Exports, and Furniture Restoration. Average income is 48,764 Kyrians, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.3 times as much as the poorest.

Battlefield gains are quickly lost when enemies don't respect a time-out, the government regularly reassures citizens that there are no monsters under their beds, babysitters are a thing of the past, and glittering new sports stadiums adorn every city and town. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kyrisland's national animal is the Axolotl, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans.
